Congrats! You’re On The Inside.

Welcome to the Music Marketing Insider Circle! Please watch the introductory video below to get up to speed.

In short, the Insider Circle was created to kick things up a notch and take Music Marketing Manifesto to the next level.

While Music Marketing Manifesto teaches you the fundamentals of marketing, driving traffic, and creating a sales funnel, the Insider Circle will be teach you additional ADVANCED strategies, and keep you on the cutting edge of this rapidly changing industry.

I hope to make this your one-stop-shop for music marketing intelligence, training, and networking.

But always remember, there are no magic bullets out there people. Every artist is different and results will vary significantly. By following the strategies discussed in the Insider Circle you are not guaranteed any specific income or results.

That being said, everything discussed here is the REAL DEAL, and this stuff really does work. So get to it!

I’ll see you in the forum!

Hi, I’m a singer/songwriter and producer and general DIYer from Dublin, Ireland. I released my first album in 2008 along with my nice looking website. On the marketing side I follow Seth Godin’s blog on marketing, joined Internet business mastery for a while and was considering some of Eben Pagan and his friends marketing stuff. But I found MMM and MMIC and really excited and interested to see how all that stuff can work for music as opposed to other products.

You can check out http://www.endareilly.com to see how I do things wrong!! Looking forward to fixing that with your help.

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Enda,

Thanks for checking out MMM and the MMIC. Really happy to have you hear. It’s cool to hear that you are already somewhat familiar with online marketing. That should put you way ahead of the curve. Let me know if there is ever anything I can help with.

      • Enda Reilly says:

        Thanks John,
Things that have held me back in the past are like what you mention at the end of the MMM manual, in that I would be questioning paying for Aweber etc. when the price of the product I have is relatively low and I’m fairly niche but annoyingly variable genre in what I do. But the traffic generating ideas you have are heartening and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.
I have some questions which I’ll start forum posts about if that’s ok to see what you and others think?
        Enda

    HI There

I am an African born guitarist/singer songwriter. Just released my debut album last year and super excited about your product and being part of this epic journey of learning and doing. I appreciate you making the monthly cost so affordable, thank you so much. Thank you for releasing this info for the greater good of fellow muso’s.

    Kind Regards
    Cynthia

    • Hi Cynthia,

This is Steve from MMM support. John wanted me to make sure I replied to your comment while he is away.

Thanks a lot for the kind words. I’m sure John appreciates them too! We are really glad to have you as a member here. Congrats on your debut release and hopefully your next record will have much success as well.

We are definitely here to help, so get in touch if you ever have any questions.

      Thanks again for your comment.

Just signed up. Thank you for providing this service! I’m excited to get started. I apologize for the lack of an avatar, but I am uneasy about certain terms of service. I’m very excited to join this forum. I put out an album in 2010 and have another in the mixing process. Can’t wait to learn about the onine business. Thanks for doing this!!

    Hi John,

It’s good to be aboard the music marketing manifesto train. I feel like I’m back in school again and I’m looking forward to putting your strategies into practice.

  • David Feanny says:

Hi John, and all you music lovers and artist.
My name is David Feanny, I’m originally from Jamaica but now reside in Britain, UK. I’ve been a songwriter/musician since I was 10 years, formed several bands, landed a contract with the Youth Sector of my Government and went on to be a full-time musician for a few years. In 1989 I left the preforming side of music to do Recording and Live Sound Engineering. I continued song writing for a few bands, but in 2005 wrote a song for my youngest son (Adam) who was 8 years at the time, which won him a national children’s award. The single released led to us working on what should have been his debut album in 2006. Unfortunately, the album was never released because the persons responsible for marketing did absolutely nothing. We are now thinking about working on another project and this is the reason why I’ve signed up to MMM 2.0 and the Inner Circle to learn all about marketing your own music and Brand. I like the synergy that’s felt here and the good-will coming from all. Looking forward to learning from everyone. Lets make some noise!:-)

  • OJ sheaks says:

Hi John – there’s must be a reason: sometimes I forget whether it’s inside-circle/ or insider-circle.html. or when I’m going to MMM 2.0 to remember the the /member/ page. It would seem to be logical to have an entry clik from the MMM home page to these pages for foggy memories like mine. you’re really savvy on these details, so I’m curious why getting into the IC or Member pages requires a memory! 🙂 thanks, oj

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hey OJ,

It’s actually a bit of an issue on my end. The problem is that they are two different products and because some people are members of one but not members of the other I don’t have a way of creating one members area for both because the system has no way of figuring out who is a past customer of one of the other products and who isn’t. If that makes any sense.

I have a plan for somewhat of a solution, I just need to find a spare sec to execute it. But I hear ya, and I understand that it’s a bit confusing. I’ll try to get to it soon.

      • OJ sheaks says:

thanks John – you grabbed the essence from my inarticulate question – I was gonna clarify I was interested in whether this “glitch” (I knew there was a good reason for it) was for ” technical” reasons or “marketing concept” reasons – your answer of “both” identifies why you are making such an important contribution to us in the forum: your program explains both the concepts and technical challenges and how-tos that address them both that we all will come across some day – this process would be quite daunting without your help, so not only is it how-to helpful it is chock full of Inspiration! Technical problems, especially for Aetheticians can really put a damper on creativity. You are laying out at least A Path to Solution for virtually all the technical/conceptual problems we are encountering, and making it seem almost ez.

btw – the “practical” reason I wrote was, I was at the sports club trying to access your site on an Itouch during my workout, and the Touch would always add “.html” to “insider-circle” which landed me on the sales page. I never could access the log in page from the Touch, even when I got the address right. So for those Touch users, a fix may come in handy someday.

Also, I am trying to come up with a plan that addresses several of my active interests (Art, Dance, Psy-Phi) using the Web, so I’m interested conceptually and technically how one multi-tasks/cross links web sites. I’ll have more questions along this line as I learn more, I’m sure.

        • John Oszajca says:

          Hi OJ,

          Glad I could help.

I have no idea why your touch would add html, it’s probably just in your cache. You should be able to clear it. But I’ll try to get a log in link up soon on the home page of the site.

Regarding your last question/point… you might look into creating a blog about those topics which you monetize with adsense and list building. You could promote multiple products to your list, including of course your own music. Just a thought.

  • Dana Carmel says:

    Hey all,
My name is Dana Carmel. I am a singer/songwriter and I currently live in San Francisco although I am from the east coast and go back there often (east coast shows anyone?;)
I just finished my first full length album and am really proud of it. I want as many people to hear it as possible. I set up a squeeze page (www.danacarmelmusic.com) but I have yet to switch to Aweber. I am using FanBridge currently. Do you guys see a huge difference?
Does anyone know if you can switch your fans over without making them confirm?
Anyway, good to be here and hope I learn some new stuff. I feel like I am on the computer way too much though!
    -Dana

    • John Oszajca says:

Hey Dana, welcome. Your question about switching to Aweber is a common one and you might want to post in the forum so others can pipe in, but yes, you can switch people IF they confirmed their opt in. But you need to write Aweber support to do it. They will need to confirm that everyone opted in. When I did it years ago I needed to let them login to my old autoresoonder to see that it was actually the case. If you can’t prove it then you will need to have people confirm again, and you will lose a lot of people. But in theory they should mostly be people who weren’t that interested any way. Still, it’s a brutal process.

Hello, Jason from country punk band Brother Howe (www.brotherhowe.net) signing in. We are getting ready to release a new album and I’m hoping to get some good tips for internet marketing of it. I bought Music Marketing Manifesto 1.0 and hope to get some insights into how things have possibly changed since then. Thanks!

    • John Oszajca says:

Welcome Jason, thanks for signing up. The fundamental process is more or less the same but a lot of the traffic techniques have changed. I’ve also become infinitely more sophisticated as an online marketer since MMM 1.0 and that experience is now passed on to you guys. Thanks again and hope to see you in the forum.

  • Oliver Lemke says:

    Hi,

My name is Oliver Lemke; my brother Julian and I are the founding (and at present, only) members of an alternative group called The Disparities. Our favorite artists include The Posies, Radiohead, and a lot of late seventies British bands like Joy Division, Gang of Four, Wire, etc. Not saying we sound like any of them, but they’ve given us our musical inspiration. We live in Austin, TX and have been doing home recordings, open mics and occasional live shows for several years now. We’re hoping to establish a career for ourselves, and looking forward to communicating with, and perhaps working with, all of you guys on this site.

  • Erik DiNardo says:

Hey everyone, my name is Erik DiNardo and I’m a singer/songwriter/guitarist living in Los Angeles. I’m originally from Boston, went to Berklee College of Music and soon after moved to LA to finalize a record deal with a major label. Turns out the deal wasn’t really what we hoped for and we passed on it (best decision I’ve ever made). In the meantime I took a job at an online coupon site called Savings.com which at the time was a startup to learn about the online marketing world. 3 years later I now head up all of our Online Marketing and have my own team. I love my job (I use my vacation time to go on tour) but music is still my passion and it’s time to move on and make it my career and #1 job. Musically I have 2 full lengths albums out (released in 2008 and 2011 both independently) recording them with producers who’ve done Jason Mraz, One Republic, and Colbie Caillat’s albums, yet I am still looking for a way to get myself out there and into the mix.

I’m extremely excited to put all of your hard work into action and I look forward to meeting you all in the forums. I really do believe that you are your own best asset and I’m tired of waiting around for others to do the work that I want to get done. This is definitely the kick in the butt I needed…I’m sure some of you agree.

All the best and I can’t wait to meet you all,

    Erik

Hey John, very much looking forward to learning even more about making a living in an industry that I am extremely passionate about. I want to thank you for providing a sense of purpose and hope for musicians such as myself. I think that a lot of people can attest to the fact that it sometimes seems like your just beating your head against a brick wall trying to break into the music industry and you can start to feel very powerless and start to seriously second guess yourself and your abilities. This program has if nothing else, provided the feeling you are indeed in control of your own destiny.

While I am currently in the process of deciding if I am actually at the right professional level to really take advantage of the program, I am excited about the prospect.

    • John Oszajca says:

Hey Trinity. Thanks for becoming part of the Insider Circle. I can definitely remember the days of banging my head against the wall. Not so much fun. No one here is gonna tell you it’s easy, but you really can take control of your career and make it profitable. Hopefully we can be the help you need. catch you in the forum.

I’m a saxophone player/keyboardist from Sweden living in Brighton, UK. I have 2 jazz/world music bands on CD Baby: Nybakat! and Lele Lele. Currently I’m recording the last bits on the debut album of Maria McAteer and I’ve been looking for ways to promote it when it’s done (beginning of next year). Hopefully I’ll find some good info here and perhaps some people to trade services with.

    Hello John,

I am a singer/songwriter and vocal coach. I’ve been wearing both hats for many years. I love both sides of the work. Aside from my own artist web site, I have quite a large website devoted to teaching singers how to sing better. My niche market has lately become singers who are over forty (singingafterforty). I am thinking about making this into a membership web site. When I saw “membership site” as one of your tutorials – I decided to join your group. I really look forward to learning from you and the many others who are involved. – Barbara Lewis.

    • John Oszajca says:

Sounds good Barbara, I think you could do well with that. Especially if you already have the following. While this stuff is geared to musicians, it certainly translates to just about any product. Let me know if I can help with anything. Catch you in the forum.

Hi all music friends, my name is Serge, from Wrexham in the UK.
I have just joined, because I became so discouraged with the decline in music sales and the pirating that everyone under the age of 30 seems to do, that I decided to become a proper registered company/business. Help I need is in getting into schools and producing school albums. Also, writing music to help companies sell their products and promote themselves. So, MARKETING, is my biggest challenge, and I believe I am in the right place for this! Need advice in getting more likes on fb for example. Nice to meet you all, Serge.

  • Katy says:

Hi John hope you are well,

It’s that girl Katy from the UK still here I have a question am setting up a better website which will have e-mail capture on it, now why do we set up a squeeze page too surely the website is the main capture page confused where to send traffic too I noticed Charley Langer has both could you shed a little light on this?
I am sure you have touched upon this point before though could you reiterate it for me.

    Thanks
    Kat

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Kat,

The reason we use a squeeze page is because a squeeze page converts MUCH better than a website that simply has a lead capture form on it. My conversions on my blogs run around 5% whereas my squeeze pages convert anywhere from 15 – 85% depending on the traffic source. So if you are spending time or money on deliberately driving traffic you want to get the most bang for your buck. After all, the marketing doesn’t take place until AFTER they are on your list.

With that said, there is still a place for a content site. That is where you send people AFTER they sign up for your list. I recommend a blog as it’s a great place to send your fans and the platform allows you to take advantage of the many social media plugins out there.

      That all make sense?

  • Isabelle Lachance says:

    Hello John!
Last year, in November I decided to record my first CD. I had no place to go to record it, so I did it in my appartment… I did ask my neighbours… Loll. Well, that said, It took me 8 months to compose it, record it with 18 musicians (find time through the busy schedules of everyone), mix it and master it. I do have the CD in my hands now. I’ve had it for two months and I sold about 100 copies so far. A distribution company refused to distribute my CD because they were “working” on their Christmas sales. Well, I think that is pretty good news! I’m now here with you and your people to get things moving! I’m an action woman, so I’ll listen to every single lesson you post and I’ll apply it to see what works best for me!
Thank you very much for all of your good work and for sharing it with serious musicians.

Hi John, I just finished listening to your interview with Charley Langer. It was inspiring and gives me hope. Although I am working hard to get on board with being more saavy in the computer/internet/business world of music. I’m not there yet and it can feel daunting at times. We have a new album coming out at the first of the year so my aim is to get some of these things in place. I’ve been paying for the Insider Circle but haven’t interacted because I don’t receive emails when people post. I forget to check in on my own to see who has posted what. You mentioned in an email to update my profile to receive but I am not sure what or how to do that.

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Deborah,
Glad to hear that you liked the interview.
There is a video in the right hand side bar that shows you some of the ins and outs of the forum. It shows you how to subscribe to a post so you get email alerts when someone replies to a thread you are watching: https://www.mmmanifesto.com/insider-circle/forum-quick-start-tutorial

You can also just click on profile (upper right hand corner within the forum) and then click on “personal options. From there you can tick the option which will automatically subscribe you to any thread that you comment on. You also should see a little box beneath the profile link that tells you how many new posts there are. You can click on each one you haven’t read and get up to speed each time you enter the forum.

  • Helene Lindqvist says:

Hi, I’m Helene. I’m a classical singer and I have a website ( http://Artsong-project.com ) where I feature art songs by unknown composers. Love the idea of your forum and Circle. I’m curious to see how much of the material I can “translate” into the classical business; but on the other hand; I would love it if I could also reach people who wouldn’t normally hear classical stuff as well.

    • John Oszajca says:

Hi Helene, and welcome to the MMIC. It’s funny, almost everyone who is in a specialized niche seems to think that this process will be harder for them. The reality is that the more specialized your niche is the easier this will work. It all starts with tapping into a target audience. Because classical is so specific, the prospects you go after will be much more likely to be interested in what you’re doing. As apposed to rock for example, which can be a very varied group. Long story short, there should be a lot you can learn here which will apply to your music. I look forward to seeing you in the forum.

Be sure to also watch the “sales funnel” video in the library. That gives you a good overview of the process we are focused on here.

  • Stockbridge Spence says:

My name is Stockbridge Spence… and I have a band called, “The Ancient City Slickers” We have been together for 10 years performing our “Big Fun Music” to audiences in retirement homes, assistant living venues and a large assortment of ” warehouses for the dying”. We are a feature act at the Florida Folk Festival and usually have little trouble gathering an audience in our concerts and festivals.

While what we do is welcome for those who don’t otherwise get to see live entertainment, the need to spread our wings and explore new possibilities has caused me to search for help in accomplishing the goal. I ran across your promotion and decided here was a good place to start. I look forward to studying the topics I’ve seen outlined . Thank you for your efforts.

    • John Oszajca says:

Thanks and welcome. Sounds like you guys are doing something interesting. Make sure to head over to the forum and post a few things. I think the fact that you have a niche audience makes your approach really interesting.

  • Stockbridge Spence says:

I have a band called “The Ancient City Slickers” . We have been together for 10 years and looking to move into newer and and more rewarding pastures. We need help with productive marketing, more exposure through touring and increased sales of our CD’s.
Our music is called , “Big Fun Music” …we use kazoos, washboard, slide whistles, banjos, guitar,” cacophonium” and a washtub base. Our playlists include country, bluegrass, ballads, ( which are not always to be taken seriously) and novelty tunes. We haven’t been using original tunes because most of the songs we do are from the 1920’s/30’s and most folks today have never heard them before . We have been described as a cross between,” jugband and slick , well organized chaos. It may not be music, but it’s in the neighborhood ” It’s time to take our show out of town.

  • Hi John,
    Hey John & Company,

I was excited to join up and now I feel like a kid in a candy store (after reading all the other great comments left here).

I’m a bassist/song writer/lyricist that performed mainly original ‘heavy rock’ tunes in a band called Omega A.D. – but I had to put that on the shelf when my second child was born and have been studying online marketing since 2007. This lead to working with a multi-million dollar/year web publishing and gaining even more marketing insights on how to make money online.
I have a site called http://www.indiebandalliance.com where I’ve been sharing what I’ve learned with musicians so that they can create the self-sustaining music career that I wish I had.

MMIC has the makings of being of immense value to everyone here. I know of nobody else who has excelled at both the ‘old school’ record deal approach as well as the ‘new school’ indie online marketing approach like John. Thanks for getting this community off the ground! I’ll add in my 2 cents anytime I think I have something worthwhile to add and think it’ll be awesome to have the chance to hang with others who are interested in both music and marketing!

  • steve reble says:

      Hi Dawn,

The forum would be the best place for this question, however you canceled your account in July. You would need to reinstate your account to get access to the forum.

    Hey all,
I’m Kevin Quinn, lead singer/songwriter from the indie-folk band/duo Boho Chapeau. Returning to my roots as an artist after a 20 year hiatus of writing songs for television. I’m both dumbfounded and fascinated by the paradigm shift in the music biz… and I’m excited about the future for two reasons…
    1. I believe theres an audience for just about anything… and
    2. I have faith that you John… can in fact teach this old dog some new tricks to help me find and connect with mine!
Love the MMM! MMIC was an easy sell to me! Thanks man…

    • John Oszajca says:

      Thanks so much Kevin,

I’m here to help. Just let me know what you need that is not in the training and I’ll be happy to see what I can do. Looking forward to seeing you in the forum.

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hey Sir. Waldo Weathers,

Sorry for the slow response. For some reason I only got the comment notification today.

It’s an honor to have someone who played with James Brown here. I hope to see you in the forum. I’m sure you’d have a lot of wisdom to share.

Thanks so much for joining the MMIC and let me know if there is anything I can do to help along the way.

  • Matt Lowen says:

    Ola Amigos,

I am a Folk/Blues/Country/Rock Singer-Songwriter out of Vancouver. Really enjoyed setting up all the elements taught in MMM. Just sort of getting going on this whole thing but I definitely believe this is a good system. It also helps I think to see things through this lens, the course has widened my perspective and made me take all the elements of my music much more seriously than I did when I was a mere “arteest”.

Looking forward to the insider circle! Thanks for opening it up again John… I had a feeling you would ;).

  • Trevor Sewell says:

Hi I’ve currently just released my 2nd album and have just (today) being talking to a very well known producer/engineer who has offered to do a remix of one of my tracks in a studio infinitely better equipped than my own. I’m just wondering about the best way to go about getting a little extra publicity – I even thought about giving away a download of my album for a short time in return for listeners just telling me what their favourite track is which in turn means that they will be influencing my choice of next single and also seeing if I could get some local press coverage. Just actually getting it out there would be quite beneficial to me and then I could hopefully do a launch gig when the new remixed single is available. Any suggestions appreciated

    thanks Trev

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hey Trevor,

Welcome and thanks for joining the MMIC. You’re in luck in that this first month has been dedicated to publicity. Check out the training module and then head on over to the interviews section. I’ve got another interview on using press releases that I should be publishing in the next few days. If you have questions about driving traffic and the sales funnel in general, let us know over in the Mastermind forum and we’ll all be happy to help.

There is a recent video in the “library” on building your sales funnel that you might want to check out as well.

  • Donald Anthony says:

I am a guitarist/producer/songwriter. The music vibes from “Neo” Blues to Funk Rock. Your course will provide the path to move this music. This is my first original music project, and i am in the process of polishing the disc. The information that you are providing is the next step, as i am taking this music from the studio to the stage. Thank you for bringing me into the 21st music century. I look forward to the journey.
