Confused about squeeze page.

I am trying to understand the whole squeeze page thing. I have a website that needs overhauling and there is a box on the Home Page a designer put in which links to aweber and a free track. From what I'm gathering about squeeze pages is that it is a separate web page from the website that either links to the website or not.

Is my understanding correct? A lot of people seem here seem to have a separate page completely with no link to site. So how are people going to find your squeeze page? Some people have a separate .net as opposed to .com where they put the squeeze page.

So I am a bit confused. I have no web skills so I am either going to bandzoogle and make a separate squeeze page under freeana.net linking to aweber or hire a designer.

Any suggestions? I want to keep it as simple as possible. Also could you look at my website:
http://www.freeana.com/ and suggest any changes? The whole thing is going to be transferred somewhere else anyway.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Freeana,

Just to clear up the confusion...  what your designer has done is totally fine.  It's a good idea to have an subscription form on your main website's blog as well, just in case new people find your website by searching your band's name, or a referral from one of your existing fans.

For everyone else, you want to drive them to the squeeze page and John does recommend that you make this a completely different domain, completely separated from your official site.

The reason for this is that a squeeze page's purpose is simply to convert visitors into subscribers.  You don't want people clicking around a bunch of stuff and burning themselves out without ever subscribing, which is why it's good practice to have a page designated with the sole goal of getting them onto your mailing list.

You asked how you would get people to the squeeze page and there are several ways.  It's important to note that you don't want to send your existing fan base to the squeeze page, just people who have never been exposed to your music, also known as "cold" traffic.

You can use articles, videos and social media sites to drive new people to your Squeeze page.  Once you feel you have a page that is converting well, then you might also look into pay-per-click advertising on Facebook and the search engines.

Once people are on your mailing list, then it's totally fine to send them to whatever piece of content you feel you would like to share, but for a first exposure you would want to send them to a free offer on a squeeze page and try to convert them into a subscriber.

I hope that clarifies things for you.

Steve, thank you for clarifying this. I have more of an understanding now. Have you heard anything about bandzoogle and being able to have a separate list with them and keep aweber for the squeeze page and cold contacts? I'm trying to decide whether it's worth paying yet another designer to overhaul this site which is far from what I want which bandzoogle's features seem to cover. I don't mind the extra cost. I just want to have it be very easy to navigate and post and I'm not sure if a wordpress site will be "easy" enough with having my own store, etc. I guess there is a learning curve on anything but I'm curious as to whether you have heard anything regarding using bandzoogle and aweber or if you have any recommendations?

Thanks for replying. Have a good one.

Hey Freena,

I think Steve covered the basic idea of a squeeze page. let me know if you still have questions about that. As far as bandzoogle, they are a site builder platform and while that is fine for a primary web site it doesn't give a user as much control as I would like for a squeeze page.

I have a free template I can give you along with some tutorials on how to set it up but if you feel like you are not really all that into the techy stuff, it might make sense to just hire a designer. My guy can probably do something for you for between $50 - $100 and make all your headaches go away. You just basically give him your aweber code and a little info and he can set everything up.

I'll have to make sure he has the availability but if you're interested let me know and I'll make teh connection.

Hi John:

I'm totally into hiring your guy to do a squeeze page for me. Save me the headache. Please make the connection and let me know how to proceed. Would he set up the copy for me based on my music or is that up to me? I have 3 different types of music but am focusing on the chant album right now. I'm definitely off the beaten path so to speak.

Here is the link: http://websitesforrockstars.co.....eze-pages/ - You might mention that I sent you. As far as I remember you come up with the copy but I think he guides you through it with a form that you fill out after ordering.

Just to throw in my observation of your site, as to try and make things a bit easier for you...

Currently you have a "coming Soon" page carved out on your 'Blog' tab.  Depending on your web host, you could easily just install wordpress.org onto the blog tab.

Wordpress is amazingly easy to use for adding content.  You just have to install wordpress at http://www.freeana.com/blog and boom, you've got a blog.

The only tricky part would be getting the blog to look like the rest of your site, but it's much better to get one up first and then worry about aesthetics later.

You could also easily edit the wordpress menus to point back to your existing pages.  Not the only way to do it, but if you were looking for a solution without having to do a massive overhaul, this is the way to go.

Good luck!  Keep us in the loop.  :-)

Steve

Thank you Steve for you thoughtful response. That sounds easy to do. I will certainly keep you all in the loop and I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my cry for help... Maybe I'll actually get techy after a while.

I just now saw that you had given me the link to your friend. Thank you! I have contacted him just now. I appreciate the connection and also am getting my website redesigned in wordpress. I hope this all pays off.

Hi John:

Your friend is doing a great job. It's almost there. I did change the settings to register replies. I hope I did it right. I wasn't getting anything before.

The bullet points are a challenge. I'm not sure whether to put some reviews of my music or an award I got or describe the music further. Let me show you what I have so far without the bullet points. I could use some guidance. Thanks.Laugh

Hi Freena, sorry for the slow response. Busy couple of days. Looking at it right now it looks like it still needs some work. I would really try to stick closely to the default example. All of those elements are there because the work. As of right now your squeeze page is missing a lot of elements and I think the header won't likely help. I would use quotes for the bullets but if you have a list of awards that could help as well.

The idea with a squeeze page is to make a bold promise about what your music will deliver with the headline.

Tell them what they will get in the sub headline.

Then show them who you are and use a few quotes to establish social proof.

Then elaborate on who you are and what they should do in the body copy. Feel free to use johnomusic.net as an example.

Best of luck with it. At the end of the day it's all about whatever works.

Hi John:

Thanks for your response. I have been away so I am trying to come up with a good header and sub headline. Boy it's not easy.

Hey Freena,

I think it's a lot better but I think there is perhaps still room for improvement. It's hard to really contribute without spending some real time with your music, but you might try tapping in to the common stress and other problems that your music will help people escape from, assuming that is what the music will do. Something along those lines? But ultimately you'll want to test things a bit. Try something and see how it converts. Then try something else and see if you can beat it, and so forth. I'm happy to give feedback as you come up with ideas. keep in mind though, they are just one guy's opinion. You may very well know your fans best.

Thank you John.

I'm going to brainstorm today. I guess I'm trying to get it perfect the first time around which is getting in the way somewhat. Thanks for your feedback.
