Hi John-

Just following up from our last conversation on the coaching call today-

Is there any way to hide the first 4 blog posts on my Home page and About page or do I have to delete them if I don't want them to be seen?  I'm going to use the pages for my blogs as we discussed and send them out on Aweber broadcasts in real time.  Just wondering if there's a way to hide the recent posts and archives without totally deleting them?  My site is https://anthonyrufomusic.com.  Also, I embedded the code from one of my videos on youtube to one of my blogs because the video was to large to upload to my media file.  Not sure if this is best practice-What would you recommend?

Thanks again for your help-

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

Steve here.  This is only a concern if you are setting them up as "Posts" under "Posts >> Add New" because only posts get added to the recent posts list.  If you are setting them up like "Pages" under "Pages >> Add New" this is not a concern because you can easily exclude them from menus, as well as excluding them from Search Engine Results Pages (via the noindex/nofollow options of the Yoast SEO plugin).

For self-hosted video, you should upload the video via FTP, rather than the Media uploader.  However if you are self-hosting the video file, you'll likely also need some type of video player plugin, in order to add the video to the page.

Your best bet might be to upload the video to Youtube and simply embed the video into your page.

This is a signature file.  You can edit your own by clicking "profile" and selecting "Edit Signature".  You can make it an image, or just plain text.  You can also link it to wherever you like.  Perhaps your Squeeze Page?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for getting right back to me-much appreciated

Yes, I'll use pages instead of posts-What would I use for template and parent?

I'm thinking use no parent and default for template?  Then for order, I can number each page 1,2,3,4 etc?

just want to be thorough to make sure I get it right the first time.

Also, I'll go to noindex and type in page url like we did in the thank you page so it can't be found-correct?

Thank you

Anthony

p.s.  Is there any way to clone a blog post  and change it to a page post without having to re-do the whole blog over again into a page post?  Or should I just delete the blog post and re-do it to a page post?  Just curious...

Hi Anthony,

John here... I'm a little unclear what you are trying to do here...

think you are saying that the four blog posts on your feed are posts that you want to reserve for your funnel content so you don't want them to appear on your home page.

If that is correct then all you need to do is change those posts into pages. Because it is only four pages, you can do this easily by clicking edit on the posts, going to the plain text editor and copying everything, and then create a page and paste the code in. Then go and delete the old post. If I'm understanding you, that would solve the problem. There is a plugin that converts posts to pages and visa versa. You can find that here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/.....-switcher/

But if you hide all the posts from your home page then your home page will be empty, so you will want to either ad new content, or just set the home page to be either a hard or soft squeeze page.

Never try to add your videos to your server. The files are too large. Instead hist them on YouTube, Vimeo, or similar, and embed them on your site. For most, Youtube will be the best option.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi John-

Cool...yes that's perfect......

Just curious as to what to use on my pages as far as template and parent.......I’m thinking:

1)use no parent and default for template...then

2) go to noindex and type in page url like we did in the thank you page so it can’t be found

Does that sound correct?

Thank you

Anthony

Hi Anthony,

Parent is only if you want the pages to appear as nested under a menu item, so you would leave that as the default of no parent. Template would be default page template as well.

For the indexing, these days I use Yoast to hide it from the search engines. But you can use whatever plugin you want. And yes, if it is in the funnle then I would hide it, but it's nit a huge deal if it's hidden or not as very few would find the content on their own and if they did it might help just as much as it could hurt. So either way is fine.
