Hey forum,
I'm just trying to work out a way to deliver the album (after a customer pays) without using my own website/bandwidth. I set up an Amazon S3 account, but it seems a bit confusing.
Of course I could probably figure it out myself eventually, but I just thought I'd ask and see what anyone else is doing, or if anyone knows an easy way to deliver the goods.
My ideal situation would be to send the customers a link via email with a direct download of the album that will expire after they click on it (or after a certain amount of time).
Any help is mucho appreciated,
Thanks,
Matt
Hey Matt,
Amazon s3 is CRAZY confusing to set up, but once it's set up it's crazy easy.
Here is a helpful Youtube video on the set up:
You could totally use the page expiration robot plugin to deliver your link, but i personally just send a zip file. I'm not worried about piracy at all. On the indie level I just don't think anyone who would ever buy from you is going to put in the effort to ripping you off. That's just my approach to this. Feelings differ of course.
You could technically just offer it from your server as well. Most hosting plans offer quite a lot of bandwidth so it's not likely to make a huge difference until you get into heavy volume. But Amazon is probably a better way to go once you get it set up. Just be sure to use the firefox add on. Much easier than uploading from within Amazon.

Thanks for that John. I think I'll probably keep it on my server for now which is "unlimited" (until I start using too much, but they of course won't give you the amount that is too much until you reach it).
It's probably better to cross the S3 bridge when I come to it. I don't know why I was worried about an expiring link anyway because I'm pretty sure once an artist is being pirated a lot it means he's doing something right. I'll watch and bookmark that vid tho I'm sure it will come in handy.
Matt
Cool, yeah, while you don't want to make it any easier to rip you off than you need to. All it takes is two seconds for someone to take your track and reupload it. So for all the worrying about piracy, it makes no real sense to sweat the holes in your system that much. With direct response marketing the sales triggers are totally different and piracy is not much of an issue. At least in my opinion.
