Hi everybody,
I have $100 credit in free Google advertising through my account with GoDaddy. Does anybody have thoughts or tips on how to best utilize Google AdSense for driving traffic to my squeeze page?
Thanks guys!
Hi Ryan,
Sorry - I think you mean Adwords - Adsense is the program where you earn money as a publisher by having advertising on your site as part of the Adwords content network. Adwords is the cost per click ads that appear on the search results pages for particular keywords...
I haven't managed an Adwords campaign yet - so I don't have any advice to give. You'll find it tricky to get a campaign approved to send traffic to a squeeze page directly through Adwords. Google likes to see deeper pages with relevant content to the keyword that you're bidding on.
I would probably try to find a site that my targeted audience tends to be on that has adsense on it and choose to display your ad on that particular site. This technique should lower the cost of the cpc since you're targeting mainly one URL and if you can get your landing page approved...will hopefully cost you less per click. But I'm not a cpc expert so take this with a grain of salt!
Woops, I totally meant AdWords! haha
Thanks for the info though Mike! I'll have to look into that as well and see if I can figure something out.
Much appreciated!
Hey Ryan,
I used to do a lot of Adwords but haven't in some time. Adwords is a pain in the ass compared to something like Facebook. As Mike mentioned, they don't like squeeze pages and will usually not allow them in the network unless they are modified with links to other content, contain contact info, privacy policies, terms, etc. But hey, it's free so go for it.
My only advice is to really tightly niche your ads with the copy on your page. And don't go overboard at first, just pick a few uber targeted keywords. For example, if you were a alt country artist I'd bid on keywords like "alt country music" in broad and exact. Then speak directly to that market and include the keyword in your headline and copy (where natural).
Bidding is a bit of a trick with Adwords as well. I usually use their traffic estimator and start high, slowly dropping my bid until it the traffic prediction drops off a cliff. Then I bump it back up. I also usually bid in 2s and 7s. The thinking there is that most people bid in increments of 5 so the extra couple of cents might allow you to win out.
You really need to get a decent click through rate or your quality score will suffer and your price will go up.
But again, it's free money so I'd say just give it a go and see what happens.
