At the very least....You should probably sign up and snag your name/band name before some other jackass named Dean Fields who plays music grabs it.  *There are 3 of us.

Mornin' Dean. I'll check it out right away. There is a guy somewhere on the east coast with the same name as me, and he is a politician who keeps trying to get elected, year after year. Lucky for me that I grabbed the .com before he did. Maybe that's why he never gets elected!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Hey again Dean.

Are you sure that's the right URL? I clicked the link and get "Error 404, link not found on this server"

Looks interesting - but since I'm from Canada I can't sign up. Which is okay, since I'm not really actively making music right now. Greg and Dean, make sure you detail us on how it works and what's great or not so great about it. Being able to set your own prices or give away for free is nice.

Sure thing Mike...I think at this point I'm just covering my bases so that my music is available for folks who get curious about it and buy music there.  Id rather it be there and make a sale than not i guess.  Plus...it pays monthly.  -which is nice.

Oh....For some reason an account was already created on my behalf.  Which meant I just needed to claim it.  Since i already had the account, the $25 setup was waived.  The only thing i can think of is that cdbaby had done it??  So, for those of you don't want to part with the cash...Might want to look yourself up anyway.  You might already be in there.

My account was set up already too, and the $25 fee was waived. I did some searching and found out that if you already have a google account, they automaticly set up a Music Artist Hub page for you, you just have to claim it. I'm guessing that this is going to be a short time promo to get the ball rolling, and once they get enough interest and enough artists signed up, the $25 fee will go back into effect.

They keep 30% of all sales, which seems fair to me! I'm going to give it a try. I'm also going to do a half price sale on CD Baby like Anna was talking about in another thread. Might try it on Google Music Artist Hub too.

I haven't read far enough yet to see if this is just a digital download site, or if they will market physical copies of CD's too, but I am guessing it is just for digital downloads.

Mike....I'm kind of surprised that you can't sign up because you are in Canada! I'm hoping that is just a temporary glitch. Seems pretty anti-commerce and poor business for Google to eliminate such a huge portion of the market!

I just had another thought. If you can offer free music on this site, I wonder if there is some sort of way to direct people to your squeeze page as part of the download process? Maybe by offering a free or sale priced download, and somewhere in the communications with the customer offer another free download via your squeeze page URL?

BTW Dean, which one is the Jackass? I'm guessing maybe your wife thought is was you for a while, after you dressed her up like a horse?LaughWink

Hey Dean,

I'm in the process right now of setting up my account, page, etc, and I will come back here to post when I find something important. This link will answer a ton of questions! http://www.google.com/support/artists/ So far I have found this site a bit difficult to navigate through, at least until I came across this page.

There is also something there about restrictions outside the USA that I haven't read yet. I don't like the idea of something with this much potential being restricted to just USA! There must be a way around it though, because non USA artists like Shakira are on GMAH  (Yeah, yeah, yeah.......I watched her video, but only once. And this time I even had the sound turned up!)

I searched and my band was not listed.  Started creating an account and they were
going to hit me with the $25.  So apparently, some artists are "grandfathered" in.

Hey Tim,

Open a Google account first, and then try again and the fee should be waved. I'm still working on mine, but Google obviously hasn't worked all the kinks out yet. I have to keep re-doing the set up, republishing etc until things finally go through. I am at the point where I am trying to ad/edit links, and I keep getting "error publishing artist, please try again in a few minutes". You might also look into Google+, very similar to facebook. It looks like Google is trying to be a one stop social media/music mogul…might be a good thing for us if they pull it off. They even have a direct link you can put on your youtube videos that take viewers directly to your Google Music Artist page to buy your music.

Try going to this link and look under "who should set up an account" (or something like that!) If you search deep enough, they will walk you through the process of setting up a google account, and then setting up a google music artist account.

So far this has been a bit of a pain in the ass to set up, but I see lots of possibilities here

Definitely worth watching. I claimed the account but won't do much with it for a while. If it takes off it will be yet another search engine for people to find us, but the problem I have with these sites is that all they really are is billboards. They let you share your music but do nothing to compliment the SALES process. For me, I'll be staying focused on generating leads and sending those leads wherever I can make the most money. We'll see what happens. But thanks for sharing the link Greg. I hadn't heard about it yet. Maybe I'll send a blog post out about it.
