Hey John:
I'm starting a campaign of steady posting on singer/songwriter-oriented topics, with the ultimate goal of creating something of an authority site a ways down the line, where people who like this kind of music can go for info, new artists, etc.
I'm wondering whether it makes more sense to start posting on my existing artist site, http://www.radionowhere.net, which has been around for years and has a couple of thousand relevant backlinks, or to start from scratch on a site I recently created that has "singersongwriter" in the domain name.
Either one of these be a better option, or maybe it doesn't actually matter? Thanks!

Okay, so she didn't like it. But you just might! Loud guitars, award-winning songwriting, and visits from the devil.

You could do either really. Your own site might do well if you created a dedicated (and keyword rich) category and then filled it with content. If you have the ability you might also create child categories so you can group everything even more.
What I would use the EMD for is a mini site where you were targeting very specific keywords. For example, if you were looking for alt country fans I might by altcountryartists.com and fill it with articles about alt country artists and music. I'd probably start with 10 pages of content and then if I started to rank I'd publish the odd new article so Google saw growth. Even if it's just once a month.
The EMD mini site strategy is great when you are after one specific keyword. Using your blog as an authority site is great for going after many long tail keywords that differ quite a bit.
Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Cool - good to know. Thanks, John!
