Hi John,
I've realised that I have 'detailed expansion' ticked for my current 3 ads I'm running. I didn't notice it before, as I wasn't getting any numbers for the 'pontential reach' anyway, which I think is always the case for lookalike audiences for me. So my questions are:
- Do you always untick 'detailed expanion' (seems to increase the audience massively and therefore water it down?
- Does it matter if I can't see the potential reach numbers for my lookalike audiences? I just guess the numbers based on 1% of the population which I get by googling !!
- Since I have 'detailed expansion' ticked for my current ads, I wonder whether I should stop them, untick and start again ?! The cost per link click isn't great, so maybe that's related?
Thanks !
Karen
Hi Karen,
Yes, I always leave expansion unticked.
No, it doesn't matter if you can't see them. You always know that it is 1% of the FB audience in that country.
If the cost is not good then yes, I would stop the campaign and start again without it ticked.
All that really matters is results though. I'm not going to say that it can never work. I just have not had good luck with it and therefore don't use it.

OK so this explains a lot. That little tick has been expensive for me! I've just checked and it was ticked in a few ads that I was dissapointed with in the past...
Am on an expensive learning curve !
Thanks for this reply and the other two.
Karen
Sorry to hear that. It's a sneaky one, that Facebook almost seems to be trying to get passed us so they can sell our ads to more placements that we wouldn't otherwise select.
Happy to help 🙂
