this has been a great thread! Reading about the struggles really adds some reality for some us who may be in the same camp, and getting encouragement from the experts as we go thru the struggle is when one needs help the most. OJ

I sent out my most recent email blast and had one address bounce.
What do I do about this?  Do I find it and unsubscribe them?
What if it was a "soft bounce?"

Can anyone give me their opinion on using blog broadcasts in AWeber?
I looked at and felt that it went against the "short and to the point" principle
that both Steve and Mike have espoused because (I think) it was going
to load the whole blog into an email and send it out?

I wouldn't read anything that long, so instead, I just wrote a brief paragraph
hinting at the story that was in my blog and then provided an "if you want the
whole story, click here" link to story in the blog.

Hello OJ! I'm kind of struggling too you know... My "partner" dropped me, he got scared and told me that the music business is not his cup of tea... He just wants to play. I've been alone for a couple of months now. It's hard to have a 40 hours a week daytime job that takes most of your time, plus overtim and all. The friend who helps me to work on my website can't finish it up before she goes to CUBA on December 9th (one week) and my video will only be ready tomorrow. I got a question for all of you guys... Should I start my internet campain WITHOUT having a live website? I will post my video on YouTube as soon as it's done and my squeeze page is ready. I'm new to all of this marketing thing, but I'm willing, able and ready to start now... any cues from anyone?

Thanks!

Hi Isabelle,

Yes, you can absolutely go live with your sales funnel without having an actual content website up and running.

However, if I understand you correctly, you just have a squeeze page and autoresponder right?

If this is the case, then you will need to have a page on your domain where you can make the sale offer.  Then you will need a page for them to land on after they make the purchase (so that you can bounce them to your customer list)

I'm assuming you already have squeeze page, the "confirm your email address" page and the "Thank you/ download" page.

From there you will be relying on your autoresponder for communication without the benefit of a website to bounce your subscribers over to, so that they can interact, leave comments and such.

You can generate sales if you have a page to make that sale offer like I said earlier, otherwise you have to make the offer from inside of an email message and link them to your retail site (CdBaby, iTunes, etc).  Yes, you can make sales this way.

However, in the meantime, there's nothing wrong with having a boring and plain wordpress blog, while you wait for your designer to finish up.  This will at least give you a platform to build a relationship, but you can also just create a page for sale offers as well.  This is what I would do if I were you.

Thanks Steve!

I'll work on it this week. Everything seems to slow me down right now... The guy who was supposed to finish up my video yesterday had an accident... He's okay, but the video will wait a few days. I guess that's life! I will do what needs to be done right now and for now and build up from there... Not always easy, but I'm hanging in there!

Yes I do have a squeeze page and autoresponder, the "confirm your email address" page and the "Thank you/ download" page. I will definitely add a page with sales offer...

Thanks so much!

I don't actually remember but i think Aweber automatically removed people after a certain number of bounces. You might confirm that. I know that not all autoresponders do that. As far as including the entire blog in the email goes, I personally hate that. Only the die hards will actually read it and they are the people that will be willing to hit the share buttons on your site, comment, etc. Not to mention your blog has options to buy. Every time I send out a blog post I see a spike in sales. I seriously doubt I would see that if i sent the blog post in the email. Just go with a teaser line and a link. That's what I do anyway.

Absolutely, get started right away. You don't technically even need a content site. You could do everything with a squeeze page, an autoresponder, and social media pages like youtube, facebook, tumbler, etc.

You're fine, just build your list. The results will inspire you. There is nothing like seeing those subscribers start to show up in your inbox 🙂

Hello Tim, I just signed up to your list and I was sent out twice to the sign up page... The exact same page. Is this what you want? If I wouldn't be in this forum, I'd skip it... I thought that the idea was to make people sign up, say that thay need to confirm and then get the free track... In your case, I got sent back to the "enter your name and email" twice. Hummm... Well, whatever, I do like your Radio Commander song! I used to do sound for heavy metal bands for many years... I love the distortion in the vocal, I haven't heard such a think in a long time. Good stuff! Keep it up!

Isabelle,

After you do the email confirmation, you are taken to my blog.  The blog has
the exact same sign up box on the right, but for a different song.  It looks like
you signed up on the squeeze page; I can tell this because that one is for the
song "Radio Commander," and then signed up again for the other song I
give away from the blog page.  I just tested it from the squeeze page, and
it appears to be working correctly.

Thank you for the compliment on "Radio Commander."  Did you get the second
song?  It's more moody Smile

Hey Tim,

No I didn't get the second song, I guess I was yoo much in my head and I thought that it was the same page so I didn't bother signing twice... How can I get back there? I tried your squeeze page again but it says that I'm already on your list. I did listen to your song about 4 - 5 times in a row... It reminds me of some old KISS or JUDAS PRIEST... Good old times and great music! Keep it up!

Hey Tim,

I had a problem with some of my recent new member addresses bouncing, and I was a bit puzzled, because I knew positively that some of these people really wanted to be on my list. So I tried an experiement. I took a good look at the email address that bounced, and tried to see if I could spot any likely mistakes, and then re-entered the address with what might be a correction. Sure enough, I was able to recover about half of the bounced addresses simply by a little trial and error until I came up with the right address. It's amazing how many typos people can make, even when typing their own name.

I'm very glad I did this, because one of those addresses belonged to a person who is quickly becoming one of my biggest new fans!

Also, if you do have an address that keeps bouncing, you don't have to do anything. After so many tries Aweber just stops trying to send anything to that address.

As far as blogs, I reserve that for the first page of my website (something I learned from John, and I am getting positive comments from fans about it!) I use Aweber as my auto-responder when people sign up for my mailing list, and from then on I send out a "newsletter" every few weeks with a brief description of anything new or interesting with my music, and a performance schedule for the upcoming few weeks. I try to keep the "news" portion short, maybe a paragraph or two, and sometimes include something of interest that isn't about me....like maybe a link to a cool video or an interesting article. I always use the same subject title "Greg Parke News", and my open rate is staying pretty high, usually 90% or better after a few days, and the click rate for people going to the links I send them seems pretty reasonable too, I think around 35-45% if I remember right.

I'm going to increase the frequency of my broadcast emails pretty soon, because I think I really am finally going to finish my next CD, and I want to build up the buzz a bit

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Tim,

I used my work email address to re-enter your list. I do have the second song now. I do prefer the "Radio Commander" song. Really nice! I got to tell you that I will unsubscribe from your list with this address. I can't use it for other purposes than my job...

Those are great stats Greg. MUCH higher than the average. Keep it up.
