Hello Friends,

My name is Sully, I'm releasing my second album under my band name The Sullied. I am a singer, songwriter/composer, producer. I finished (mixed & mastered) the Album last week. I have been using Facebook primarily for the last 6 weeks to funnel people to my squeeze page with the offer of a free download and discount on a limited release CD before it is available to the public http://www.thesullied.net . I also offered a download of the Album to a limited number of people in exchange for a review and or comments. I'll let you know how this turned out.

I am now diving into the article writing and also getting ready to send copies out for review before the August release. John, your insider-circle first  installment on being your own publicist could not have come at a better time, Thanks!

I have been trying to reach a niche market of fans. People who like Radiohead, NIN, Hendrix with a touch of contemporary classical flavors like Stravinsky or Bartok. To my surprise there has been great response from teenagers.

My question is this, if anyone has time to listen to a few songs and suggest other bands or artist that my music might be similar to, I would be very grateful. This would be a tremendous help. Below are links to the media player on my Facebook bandpage as well as Facebook page with three songs off the album.   Thanks, Sully  Wink

Tunes sound good. I hear the NIN. There's almost a little Pink Floyd there as well. It's more modern and aggressive obviously, but there might be some cross over. Testing often shows surprising results though.

For example with Music Marketing manifesto... I do a lot of paid advertising and initially I thought my biggest audience would be 18 - 25 year old as that's when musicians are typically most active. Quite to the contrary, the most responsive audience to my ads was over 50. My average customer is between 30 and 40 from what I can tell. The young demographic was so unresponsive that I stopped even advertising to people under 25.

...so you never know who will end up responding.

I hear some Sound Garden influence.  I've heard from a friend that is a Chris Cornell fan that Chris Cornell was

influenced by Pink Floyd as well, so maybe that's the reason.  Your voice in "The Dying Tree" bears resemblance to David Lee Roth.  Nice production work too.  It would be great if we could do a show together the next time we pass through the DC area, Richmond to Delaware is a barren spot for us on tour, which is somewhat of a mystery given that there should be lots of venues in the area:

If this post shows up as "reported," it's my fault.  I clicked the wrong button trying to reply to it and had to hit "back" to try and stop it.

No worries, it didn't come up as reported. Thanks for the heads up though. Sound Garden is a good one. I wouldn't have thought that, but I get it after you say it. Wish I was on the East coast or we could talk about tour connects, but I never go that far out unless I'm opening on a national tour... and someone else's gas money 🙂

Bets of luck with that. Keep in mind, the members area is just getting going. Doors are now closed while we get the first few weeks ironed out. But they will open again before too long and there should be a rush of new people in here. But hopefully one of the existing members will catch your post and you guys can connect on this.

Tim,

Thanks for taking the time to check us out as well as your comments and comparisons. Much appreciated.

As for shows, We are not doing dates until the fall but I'll keep it in mind. You had mentioned DC, Richmond and Delaware.

There are lots of small clubs with live music in these areas as well as Philly, Baltimore and Annapolis. I see you guys perform as a duo, this is great for the budget and great as an opener for a bigger act. Like most clubs you will probably have to go in for low or no money the first time. I tour with and manage another 7 piece band that does 120 dates a year in the US, Canada and Europe. We still cold call venues trying to fill dates in between strong dates. We just tell venues we are on tour and do you have a space for such a date. They always need to fill dates. When we want to build in a new area we will go in for little or no money several times to build it and offset the expense with the fatter dates.

Tim, I apologize if you already know all this stuff. Thanks for your comments and I like your Music. Very Cool!

Hey Sully,

I just checked out your music on Facebook...I can hear some "Floyd" in there too! Are you from Oregon? I think we just recently friended each other on Facebook and I seem to recall Oregon. Anyway, I like your music. Nice guitar work!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Greg,

Thanks for checking my music out. I checked your music out too, very cool. Yes we are friends on Facebook, but I am from

the Washington, DC area. Wow, I've been getting the Floyd thing a lot. I love Pink Floyd but it never entered my mind at any point when writing this album. I'm glad I asked for the feedback.  Thanks, Sully

Hey Sully...

I really dig this stuff.  I actually heard some similarities to a very cool but still moderately unknown guy named Celldweller.  You might check him out just for fun (celldweller.com).  He actually gets quite a few placements in film trailers, so he might be worth getting to know...maybe there's a licensing opportunity there or something...I dunno.

Some of your vocals remind me of an updated take on Peter Gabriel, which is a GOOD thing.  Very soulful and edgy.
