OK!!!

I'm looking for input and help.

I never took the time to write all of this down. But here it is. I'm a 39 yr old rapper (I never advertise that) with a dream and a little bit of skill/talent. I've been rapping since 1983 and have been in the source Magazine ( a hiphop mag) in 1991. I did a single back then call Detroit is Back and that got me and my team in the Magazine. Anyway, I went to school and got a degree. After that I did a cd that I sold cds out of the truck of my car, the second CD I have up on iTunes, all the while doing mixtapes with no way of promoting and really building a Platform/solid business until MMM3 came into my life.

Now I feel like time has caught up with me and my days are short for trying to Begin a rap career at this stage. I would be curious if my niche (east coast/oldschool/gospel rap) is worth it.

I think My target audience is: people that love old school hiphop but don't like the content of today's rap. People who like Nas, Wu-Tang,Cross Movement,Da Truth, J-Dilla and other east coast rappers. With a tinge of the new sound.

I'm also curious if those fans buy music? I'm also not sure if my sales copy reaches these fans. Lately I've been so focused on this ( copy writing, business building, split testing ads) that its harder and harder to create consistantly. I would like any input that can help me get my stuff together. Below is my website and samples of my work.

Thanks,

Hey Terry,

I definitely think that it's worth it and that there is an audience out there for your music. It won't be hard to find them with some basic targeting. You sort of pinpointed your unique selling proposition right there in your post... Your looking for "People who like the sound of Nas, Wu-Tang,Cross Movement,Da Truth, J-Dilla and other east coast rappers, but want a message that is more positive than what is currently out there." That's a pretty straight forward pitch that should connect if you target correctly. I'd literally re-phrase that and make it the headline of your squeeze page and then target people who like Christian Rap, or other Christian Rap artists.

The real challenge is just distilling your brand down into a series of emails so that people feel connected to you and your music and ready to purchase when that offer ultimately hits their inbox.

Thanks for the input. I've read a lot of the posts on various topics on the forum and now realize how behind the curve I am marketing online. I need to get way better at targeting the right audience and with more consistancy. My plan (when I get the $$) is to run several campaigns and get the data back to this forum for more help.

*** I wonder how much of this forum is therapy? LOL!

Sounds good. And probably a lot. As musicians, we need it ;-)
