Hello,
Joined Insider Circle only recently, writing because I really enjoyed a conversation between Brian Rogers & John and some specific point got me thinking- Brian create's music in more than one genre and mentioned how that can complicate the upsell. I've come to a similar crossroads since my main funnel is to push my most album which is my first children's album-
Jefreyaugogomusic.com (squeeze)
jefreyaugogo.com (normal main site)
At first I was bummed thinking I can't do the upsell since my five other albums are all indie rock. But then in my 2nd Aweber follow up email I give away a 2nd song, this time of my indie rock stuff.
jefreysiler.com (normal, indie rock site, no squeeze for this stuff yet)
My aim is that once I get to the upsell i can spin it as an artist's journey of finding his voice with all the bumps bruises and sharp turns. Is there any think I should look out for or be concerned about? I only have one children's album so as far as ROI I need that upsell package to financially make it worthwhile..
Any advice appreciated-
Cheers,
J

Hey Jefrey,
My apologies for the slow response. I've been largely offline for the holidays. Just getting back to work now.
I think your thinking is correct. I don't see anything wrong with selling your "greater artistic journey" to the fans ONCE the become customers.
Not being in the trenches with your brand I can really only speculate and ponder, but one thing that occurs to me as a possible angle is having some kind of an upsell for the parent, who I assume is likely the one making the purchase for their child. So for example, you could thank you for buying something for their child and then offer them a box set of your inde rock (at a great price) for them. If you thought some children might be ordering you could first redirect to a landing page that asked them if they were a child or a parent and link to appropriate upsell offers. Just a thought. Not at all sure how that would play out.

Hey John,
Thanks for writing. In a nutshell (brand-wise):
* I've self-released 3 indie rock records mainly as {artist name} - "Jefrey Siler"
* I recently released a humorous children's record as {artist name} "Jefrey Au-Go-Go" (official) and "Jefreyaugogomusic.com" (MMM link)
Since I own and have written everything I've put out and, like you, have unreleased materiel (2 mastered albums worth) MMM is quite a good fit for me, especially with the upsell. So my question-
In my Aweber followup series I first giveaway the promised "Jefrey Au-Go-Go" (children's) song "Peter the Pushy Puppy." But since the rest of my catalog is adult indie rock I was wondering if I should then offer an additional Aweber email/free download of the "Jefrey Siler" (adult) rocker "History's March on Conscience Hill"?
I give those links so you can hear the difference in tunes. I just wonder will that send a mixed message? Will it wig out a audience that I've targeted for their parental characteristic's?
I like the flow of your own "John Oszajca" scheduled follow up's so I've mimicked them exactly if that gives you an idea of how I roll out my Aweber series
Also here's my Upsell Page
FYI i plan on replicating my funnel system that would center around the "Jefrey Siler" (adult indie rock) stuff once I get a handle on the whole F'bk ad's concept
Deepest thanks for your time-
J
Hey Jefrey,
Those are all good questions/concerns. To my mind it would be too much to try and push the rock stuff too heavily to the subscribers who signed up for childrens music. It;s one thing to offer it as an upsell, or to even run a one-off promo for it once every 6 months or a year, but the main brand and identity that you are perpetuating should be consistent with what they originally signed up for. At least to my thinking. I think the voice of a children's music "newsletter" would be very different from the voice of a rock musicians. And I wouldn't water down one to make room for the other. But a little bit of cross promotion is perfectly fine, so long as you keep it in check.
