I'm currently reading "Brewing Up a Business: Adventures in Beer from the Founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery" and it's a really inspiring business book. Particularly if you like beer
In the book he makes some fantastic points about branding that really apply to music marketing.
One of the more succinct statements he makes is something he calls "the three truisms of successful marketing".
They are:
1. Your marketing should have a unique and consistent voice that is distinctly yours and plays off the brand identity you aspire to achieve for your company.
2. Your marketing should center around the benefits and advantages that your product or service offers. And you must truly deliver on these benefits in order for the marketing to have a worthwhile impact.
3. Your marketing should motivate your targeted customer to do something. In other words it needs to have some value beyond entertainment.
I thought that summary was really wise and worth sharing because it applies so much to music. Check out the book if you get a sec... and enjoy beer.
