If there has been a post on this, I haven't been able to find it. It seems like this has to have been discussed.

When I first created my followup series, I made sure that open and click-through rates were acceptable, and then moved on to deal with trying to get more traffic. Well, now I'm back to refining my series again, and I'd like to see how tweaks in my followup emails affect things. So, I contacted Aweber to see if I could reset my followup email open and click-through stats like I can on the web forms. She said this can't be done.

I can't believe I can't test email open and click-through rates after making changes. I'm feeling a little dumb that I can't figure this out... Help? Please? Cry

Admittedly I'm kinda bad when it comes to testing the stats of my follow up series. I typically just track broadcasts and then look at the over all conversions of a follow up email series. But tracking is definitely a good thing to do. I'm surprised to learn it can't be done.

What I've done in the past though is just look at the stats and then delete the bad performers and replace with a new email. You can reorder your emails in the follow up series as well. Wouldn't that solve it? I can think of a couple other workarounds but I think that would be the simplest.

Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? Thanks, John. You got me thinking about workarounds. What do you think of me starting another list for that purpose? My only purpose for starting another list would be to track open and click-through rates on followup emails. Could I later combine the lists after I get a feel for how things are performing? I don't really have any experience with list segmentation and stuff like that.

ive dealt with this before.  total bummer.  You can change anything you want but the stats stay the same on the followup series.  For instance...If you want to change the order of your emails and move Email #3 to the second spot, your analytics for Email 2 will stay as the stats for the second email in your series.  meaning...they wont follow that specific email to that spot.  Sucks...But, I take screen shots and save them as the date so I can compare.

Thanks, Dean, for both: (1) confirming I'm not a bonehead, and (2) offering another good suggestion. A screenshot comparison actually sounds pretty good. Actually, what I'll probably do is cut and paste into Excel -- but I wouldn't have thought of that without your suggestion. THANKS!

Okay, thanks for that insight Dean. That is a pretty lame limitation.

I wouldn't personally create a second list just for that purpose, sounds like a pain. And no, to my knowledge you cannot combine lists on Aweber. But I haven't looked into that in years so it's possible something changed.

One possible workaround (although admittedly crude) would be to just create a bitly link for each link in your series and track things that way.

Another possibility is to just call Aweber and see if they can reset stats when needed. I know there are a few things that I can't do in their system that they can do for me when i call or email in. Might be worth a try.

As I say, I mostly just focus on conversions with the series. I'll write 5 emails (or whatever) and then track the conversion rate on the people coming in. Then make changes and track that. Doesn't give you as much data but it accomplishes the same goal.

Thanks for posting the question, I didn't realize that if you change the email content or order that the stats will 'stick' with it. However, I use Mailchimp so maybe it's different with them...?

Thanks for the workarounds. It sounds like you're beyond having to worry about, but the other stat you'll want to watch is the unsubscribe rate if you start tweaking your sequence to become more aggressive or anything like that. I like to keep a watch for when people start dropping off the list and if there's a certain point in the sequence where it seems to be a larger percentage doing this - I'd start looking there...unless you do want to weed out the less dedicated fan.
