TESTING Funnel, hitting snags...

Hi John-

So I've been testing the funnel and running into issues. For some reason PayPal is not redirecting to my upsell page after purchasing an album. There is a "return to merchant" link on the invoice page link that takes them to the upsell page- if they click it- but my understanding is that a customer should be taken there automatically without having to click anything.

Also, the download links are showing up in my inbox before that re-direct. or regardless of it. Is this an A Weber issue of Paypal or both?

Please advise.

THANK YOU!

Matt

Hi Matt,

Steve here.  I believe if a person is actually signed into their Paypal account this should be an automatic redirect.

That said, here are some settings to look into.

1)  You can set the auto return url on the button level.  I believe you already have it set up for your button, which is why you are asking about it.

2)  There's actually another setting on your Paypal account that enables this feature account-wide.  It's possible that it may be turned off, even though you've set an auto-return url for your payment button.  Check under "Selling Tools >> Seller Preferences >> Website Preferences".  Make sure that you have the auto return set to "on", but also make sure you have followed Paypal's guidelines for enabling this feature.  They are listed on the page.

Let us know how you make out.

Hi Steve-

Your 2nd suggestion did the trick. Excellent. Thank you!!

Just so i'm clear:

Once PayPal processes the payment, the customer is taken to the upsell page. Now the upsell page says "wait you're not done, you still need to get your download link." But that link has ,in fact, already been sent to the customers e-mail correct?

i.e. them clicking on a link in the Upsell page is not triggering the Aweber e-mail with the initial download. That purchase has already put them on the album customer list which then generates the e-mail with a link. Just wanna be clear. I'm fine with it though it seems a but disingenuous...

I.e they might be on my site on a laptop and get a ping with the album download links on the phone e-mail before they've clicked through the upsell page...true?

Matt

p.s. random question: if people search for me will they find my homepage? (mattshapiromusic.com)? That could undercut the funnel correct?

Hi Matt,

Steve here.  The "wait, you're not done..." isn't intended to get people to do anything other than to make them aware that a message has been sent to their inbox containing their purchased downloads.  However you also have another offer for them, which is what is below that, as the upsell.  Does that make sense?  That text is simply a reminder that the download have been sent to their inbox and that they can finish up and find it there.

Regarding your question about people searching for you...  Do you anticipate random people searching for you?  The reason I ask is that sure, people might search for you, but they will most likely already be familiar with you.  Whereas you are sending cold traffic directly and intentionally to a squeeze page.  These people are not familiar with you and won't likely be searching for you at all.

Now someone might see an ad or two by you and go actively search, in which case sure, they might find your homepage.  However this does not necessarily undercut your funnel, since you will likely be hiding and de-indexing your funnel's pages.

Plus the homepage will have a sign up form and a link to the free track page.

Let us know if we can ever help with anything else.

Hey Steve-

yes all of this makes sense re: upsell page.

As far as the homepage, I only anticipate people looking me up who know me already or have been directed via FB ads at some point.  But i guess that's fine, and as you say there are links to my album page and an e-mail sign up. I guess my concern was that people would find the home page before the squeeze page mand feel less compelled to sign up. But that would be the great minority. All good...

Thanks for your help!!

Matt

Hey Matt,

Sorry for not chiming in here sooner. I was off for the weekend and had a busy couple of days before that. Looks like Steve has addressed your questions. In terms of finding you via the search engines. Some definitely will, but I don't really see that as a problem. There are still many calls to action and links to free music on eh home page. It;s really the cold traffic we are worried about when running our ads.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.
