Hey everybody, what's up?
A quick look at the bottom of the page shows that we now have 336 members. Cool! No ....really...this is really cool! This is a great forum. From what I have seen, pretty much every question gets answered, some really oustanding ideas have been presented, and the knowledge base here, by far exceeds anything that I have ever been involved with.
Several months ago, when I was trying to rebuild my website, I leaned real heavy on the members that we had at that time, (a lot less than we have now!) and the help that I recieved was incredible! I can honestly say that without this forum, the website I now have would not exist. I also wouldn't have my new fan list, wouldn't have my growing twitter account, wouldn't be anywhere near as fired up about what the future holds for my career......
This forum has helped me take a real hard look at what I am trying to do, and I think I can honestly say that without the encouragement I have recieved here, while I know I wouldn't have given up, I would still be floundering, making the same mistakes, still lacking a solid direction. I owe MMM and this forum way more than I can ever hope to give back.
So, why am I writing this? Simple. I developed a rather enjoyable habit that I want to share with you.
Being involved in the entertainment industry for most of my life has resulted in my "biological clock" being totaly f****d up! When I drive home from a nightime gig, even though I may have been struggleing to stay awake for the drive home, once I get home, I am wide awake for several hours. So what to do? Eat? Yeah, but do that "4th meal" too often, and your clothes don't fit! Drink? Well, I suppose, but I'll feel like shit when I wake up later. Play guitar? Uh....no....lets be honest! My fingers hurt, I already played my heart out, my ears are tired, my voice is tired....F that! Check my email? Oh yeah....lots of crap that got past the spam blocker. I definitely want to read all that shit!
My new habit? I started checking in with the Insiders Circle, and it is great! I can't wait to get home! It's like having a room full of friends ready to pick up the discussion from where it last left off. The happy drunk at the end of the bar who kept telling me over, and over, and over "I love your music dude" is finally sleeping it off, and now I can wind down my day....or night.....(whatever!) with kindred spirits. The post I am reading might have been done several hours earlier, but to me it is right there in front of me, in the here and now, and I can answer a question, express my opinion, support someone elses statement, or maybe even start a new thread. Cool!
OK, so here is where I see things now. The past 2 or 3 months, I kind of got sidelined with some personal family issues, and I am also head over heels involved in a recording project (nearing completion!!!!!!) so I admit I have temporarily put the Insiders Cirdle on the back burner, so to speak. (Notice I said temporarily!) When I first joined this forum, I felt like I was in way over my head, and the best thing I could do was just sit back and listen. Yeah, well, since I am now (still) the top poster, I guess that didn't work! While I might be the top poster, there are many members that are way, way ahead of me in putting into practice all these new methods that can helps us in our carreers.
We now have 336 members! How cool is that! So much experience, so much knowledge, so many questions, so many answers! So here is my big question. When was the last time you were in a room full of 336 people, and so few were talking? Were you ever in a room with so many people, and such a small minority were actually talking? Lets keep this thing going! Ask questions, start a new topic about something that interests you, tell us what worries you, what excites you. I started several new threads that I thought would have gotten me laughed clear off the internet, but they are still going, and the info contain in those answers that I recieved has proven very helpful. I challenge all of you to take over as top poster! It's your forum. Make it all it can be

Hi Greg. I'm speaking up. I'm fairly new here, and I'm learning my way around. I've been a musician all my life but have never been a big star. I've played and sung in bands, played solo piano around the Lake of the Ozarks, and now I just doing what I've done for years, which is teaching in my private studio while trying to build an online presence. I've been there, done that - traffic stops at 2 am heading home from a gig when the cops are looking for drunk drivers, doing the Blues Brothers thing except we were a rockabilly band booked into a biker bar where they were expecting Guns 'n' Roses - blasted agent! I just wanted to say 'hi'. I've been burning up my brain for the last two years trying to figure out how to use the internet to sell my books, compositions, and music. It's a lot to learn, but I'm grateful to John, because as he says, the common internet marketing strategies don't work very well for musicians.
Ah yes...the 2:00am blue light special! I once had a cop so pissed off that I wasn't drunk that he chewed me out for pulling out of the parking lot too slowly, and that my truck was so big that people couldn't see me pulling out into traffic.............and there wasn't another vehicle in sight! He really got pissed when I started laughing at him, and when he realized how stupid his statements were. Oh well. I've also been pulled over, and had some great friendly conversations when they realized I hadn't been drinking. One cop even bought a CD!
Welcome to the forum BTW!
