I'm wondering what is going wrong here - I have a conversion rate of almost 38% on my opt-in page but seeing low conversion rates for sales in my email sequence...hovering around 1%. I even worked with a top business strategist back in the late fall and that didn't seem to change anything except make it worse?!

Dia Dhuit
Hello,
I am so pleased to meet a fellow lover of ancient world history and Celtic music!
Here is the first song for you called "Midsummer's Night" taken from my album, The Ancestry.
Exploring the world the Celts lived, loved and celebrated in has led me down many twisting winding paths full of discovery and ancient wisdom.
It was a hot sultry summer day as I gazed out my bay windows onto the never ending fields of green beyond… I had almost finished the writing of my debut album, The Ancestry, but knew there was something missing…
A song to capture the celebration of life, the seasons the Celts revered, to bring to fruition the full meaning of ancestry.
I sat in the golden glow of my music room, with a spinet piano before me surrounded by historical tomes, Middle Eastern literature and books of Celtic lore.
I read about Beltain, the third Celtic Lunar Festival, named after Bel, the Gaulish god of light, fire and healing and which literally means “Bel’s fire.”
“In Ireland, holy fires known as tein-eigin were made by rubbing together two sticks of sacred wood. The night before Beltain, all fires were extinguished thoughout the land, after which the first tein-eigin was kindled by the Ard Ri, or High King on the Hill of Tara…” excerpt from The Celtic Book of Seasonal Meditations by Claire Hamilton
Flames leaping into the dark air were answered by fires on every hillside until the whole night was ablaze.
And then came Lughrasadh, which marked the beginning of autumn, a time when the fruit was ripe, celebrating in circular dances.
Midsummer’s Night journeys from the start of one festival, looking forward to the other… glancing back in time beyond the centuries and to join in these ancient celebration of the seasons.

Hi Jillian,
Steve here. Thanks for sharing the info.
Can I ask you, on your squeeze page, are you offering one or two songs?
My reason for asking is that the bottom of the first email mentions a second song the next day, and just makes me wonder if you offered two on the squeeze page. If you haven't offered a second, I wouldn't ruin the surprise inside of the first email. Instead focus on having them take the action of downloading the first one, then perhaps inviting them to give you feedback in the first email.
My other thought is that I think this particular first email is too long. I kind of feel like you should just deliver the free song and let the music do the talking. I do think the content is cool though. I think it could make for a great follow-up email, where you gift them with the second song.
My gut is telling me that either people are losing interest/ getting confused right off of the top, or that you offered two songs and only delivered one at a time.
Any additional info you can share will help us try to get to the bottom of it.
Thanks!
Hi Steve, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes I offer up front 2 songs, so no suprise 🙂
Funny I did have a shorter version of all my emails and then switched it to include more story according to the Business Funnel Strategist coach I worked with...but like I said that didn't help either so open to suggestions...
They get the first song immediately and then the second song the following day. 3 days after that they get a Thank You email with a offer for a discount code on both cd's.
Old First Song Email:

The Celtic day began at dusk; the fires extinguished and lit at Beltaine would be silenced and lit again at the solstice.

Current Second Song Email:
Hello Friend,
Imagine you've journeyed back a thousand years, to when the nights were a dark cloak blanketing the earth and the only light came from candlelight, you are breathing in the crisp winter air gazing up into a celestial sky...
Here is your second Celtic Mid East Song, “Come Winter Ground” from my album, Enchanted Winter.
On an ancient winter’s evening troubadours would travel from home to home spinning tales of days of yore, daring feats accomplished and spreading cheer for the long nights ahead.
Before a roaring hearth fire amongst people of all stations their songs would toast the evening and the coming of winter ground.
Orion shining bright in an ancient celestial sky…

P.P.S. Thank you SO much for taking the time to listen to my songs and spread the word. It means a lot to me, especially as an Independent Artist! Of course you can unsubscribe anytime, but just like thousands of other people I hope you'll stay with me for the journey. I bet you and I have a lot in common and I am pretty sure we would get along in real life... 🙂 So stay with me and I'll send you some updates, Hectors latest shenanigans (my 20lb and growing Ragdoll Cat!) and more music from time to time!
Hi Jillian,
Steve here. Thanks for clarifying that you were offering two tracks.
You said:
"They get the first song immediately and then the second song the following day. "
I think this may be the problem. You're offering them two tracks, bu then you are only giving them one, after making them read a long email. Then the second one comes a day later, in likely another relatively long email.
My thoughts are that you should deliver both tracks as offered, inside of one short and sweet first email, and let the music do the talking. Then perhaps start to spin a yarn with them in subsequent emails.
The way it is now, I think people might be getting confused about what's going on. Some are probably dismayed at not getting what was offered in the way they likely expected.
One of the reasons people are reluctant to fill out opt-in forms, is that they've had a past experience of it becoming a daily email hassle for them.
You could be the one that they are actually really glad they signed up for, but you want to get off on the right foot with them, right away. So I think giving them the two offered tracks in a very hands-off way, will let them take a listen, like you wan them to do, without overwhelming them to a whole lot of back story, where they might not yet see the relevance.
Does that makes sense?
Hey Jillian,
I pretty much agree with everything Steve said, but just to add a little bit of additional perspective... the bottom line is that if you are getting solid conversions to leads (which you really are at 38%( but low sales, then you are losing their interest with your funnel. This is likely because of the email and/or blog copy (f you are using blogs) or it could be because you are some how landing low quality leads. This often happens when people target non-western countries with less disposable income. Who exactly are you targeting?
For me though... I do personally find the emails to be a bit long and flowery with their language. I'm much more a fan of being short and to the point. The goal of the emails being to get them to click and engage with your content outside of their inbox. The goal of the subject line is to get them to open. The goal of the email is to get them to click over to some content. The goal of the content is to get them to engage and eventually convert.
I cant at all comment on the "business strategist that you are using, but I have seen this a lot, where people will hire internet marketers to help them with this stuff, but selling music really is different from selling traditional products. Much of it is similar, but the subtle nuances and the motivating factors are quite different.

Hey Steve and John,
Thanks so much for your input I really appreciate your insight.
I had not looked at it that way with regards to the songs in two different emails being an issue.
I totally agree on the flowery language...I wasn't a fan of it to begin with but was willing to give it a go, definitely a costly mistake hiring that strategist, wish I had found this first 🙂
I am not using a blog post in my sequence as of yet.
My geo target is US & Canada in one ad. Second is a European ad targeting the UK and Germany mainly.
I revamped my whole email sequence with giving the 2 songs in the first email and keeping it short.
I will let you know how things go.
Definitely agree the motivation is different and the subtle nuances she did not get, which is why I am no longer working with her. Live and learn though right?
Thanks again!
Absolutely. Most successful careers begin with a few unsuccessful experiments, especially in marketing.
My advice would be to do share the meaty content on a blog and use email to move people to the content, rather than trying to get it all done in an email. That said, there are exceptions to every rule and many different ways you can theoretically do this. All that's really important is that you effectively build relationships with your fans. Whatever the medium.
And offering two songs is fine. I just wouldn't promise two songs and spread out their delivery. That sounds more like an internet marketers "mini course" strategy trying to be applied to music. Instead I would offer one song and then simply surprise them with the second song somewhere within your funnel. But that's just me.
