Hi Guys
I am looking at ways to raise money to keep my label going (to pay for releases, marketing, promo etc for2 artists and possible other worthwile projects). I am looking into a variation on the crowd sourcing approach-I would like to invite people to buy shares in the net royalties, arising from the sale of one of our artists forthcoming debut album. I would want to charge $60 per share and limit numbers to around 600. I assume that there are no hard and fast rules, but does anyone know what the revenue split looks like for an album with say-10 tracks? When production, marketing, promo costs etc are taken out, what is the percentage for royalties? I would be interested in knowing approximate % for the writers, label, producers etc I hope that this makes sense!
This isn't really my area of expertise and I'm sure someone else might have more info for you but for the most part, it's whatever you negotiate. With the exception of mechanical royalties. Thus might help you there: http://www.harryfox.com/public.....ulator.jsp
If you are going to raise funds outside of one of the established platforms such as kickstarter (which I assume has certain guidelines), then you might want to talk with a lawyer. Selling actual "shares" in a business involves some legal particulars. At least to my understanding.
