Hello,

I hope you are well. I was wondering if you guys have had any issues lately with the new "Promotions" folder in people's gmail accounts?

Do the emails you send out go directly to that folder, and your fans don't see them ? (as opposed to going in the "Primary" folder of gmail)

Thanks for your help,

Eric John Kaiser

Hi Eric,

Steve here.  I'm subscribed to John's list with one of my gmail addresses and his messages go directly to the inbox, not the promotions folder.

I've subbed to a few different lists, and I seem to get the emails somewhat randomly in my inbox and promotions folder.

Hey guys, sorry for the slow response. I somehow missed this thread when it came in. Really sorry about that.

It is an issue, and yes, some emails are being missed because of the promotions folder. But it's not having a game changing impact on things, and all we can do is continue to offer valuable content so our fans ultimately engage.

This is just a guess, but I suspect Google's algorithm functions similarly to edge rank, in which they may be delivering emails that people engage with to the inbox, regardless of whether or not they are promotional. So I think it's likely that your most engaged fans will still get all those emails sent to their inbox. But that is just a guess.

It was a while ago, but shortly after gmail added the promotional tab (which many users such as myself don't even use) I looked at deliverability of all of my subscribers and gmail subscribers had an open rate of about 10% less than others. So as I say, not game changing stuff.
