Hey John, I've been searching around the forum and unable to find the format for the sales funnel once someone has opted-in for my free download and I want to introduce them to my program with an LTO. I'm unsure about the rhythm and tone of the follow up emails. Let me know what you suggest. Thanks! Julianna

i.e. after they receive their free download do I point them towards another freebie and if so, in @ how many days? Or do I introduce them to the product straightaway while they are freshly aware of it from trying the sample download?

This isn't an exact science and everyone does it a bit differently but I outline the basics of it in my copy-writing for musicians module.

Are we talking about your music or your meditation course?

Having trouble with your marketing? Wish you could have an experienced direct-to-fan marketing expert look over your actual campaigns, music, or content and offer feedback? Or perhaps you’re just looking for a little one-on-one assistance so you can ask questions that pertain to your specific goals and get a second, more experienced, perspective? for the meditation course. So they would get a free download to try meditating with music and then they would be introduced to the full program to purchase at a special discount. Just not sure how to space the offer out...

Not an exact science but what I would do is something like...

Day 1: Offer a free lesson/session/ebook/whatever upon sign up. This should probably emphasize the problem, tell them how meditation can help, and give them an action step to take.

Day 3: Offer another action step, encouraging them to contact you, leave comments, all the while.

Day 5: Direct Pitch to your 3 day LTO.

Day 6: Remind them that tomorrow is the last chance, emphasize some new content or idea, or possibly point out some testimonials.

Day 7: Final notice for LTO.

Now that is a very straight forward evergreen LTO. The idea with the free content is that you deliver a result and essentially make them want more.

There are a million ways you could change that up. You could add a webinar into the mix, a q and a, more content, etc.

You just have to ask yourself (and maybe literally ask your list) what it would take for someone who was only marginally interested, to pay for a class. Would it take a case study? Would it take interesting facts? Would it take a discount? Would it take celebrity proof? And so on... Figure out what all those points of resistance are and then overcome them with your email series and ultimately make an LTO.

Question: Do you think I'd be better off making a shorter presentation for the sales funnel or should I just stick with the 20 minute presentation you saw and hope that combined with the actual experience people get in the free download up front, it will do the job? It would take a week or so to create a new presentation...

I'm hesitant to say because I'm not in the trenches with you and don't have a feel for things. 20 minutes is a long time for what is purely a sales video. But sometimes long is good. It just depends how much value people watching it feel they are getting. I would probably refine everything using what you have and then take a look at your stats and see if something needs improvements. You have a lot of elements that you have worked hard to create but have not yet significantly tested all that much in the funnel. I would not bail on something you worked so hard on until you are seeing consistent traffic coming in and can clearly pinpoint any problems. Otherwise you will create something new and then just wonder the same thing about the new content.

Hey John, launching in the next couple of days! Couldn't resist making the sales vid 4 minutes. I think it works very well. I used the educational content in a separate vid.

Quick question about the funnel: On days 6 and 7, when I'm reminding them to go to the offer before it ends, am I assuming they've watched the sales presentation and sending them directly to a purchase page, like this one: http://www.howtomeditatewithmu.....m/purchase

Or am I sending them back to the sales video?

I normally send people directly to the sales page, especially towards the end of the funnel. However, I would personally always include the sales video on the sales page. I have never done a short form sales page like you have done. But I'm not saying there is anything necessarily wrong with what you are doing. But it is a bit A-typical. Here is an example of a sales page I put together for a client. http://www.filmfinancemastercl.....ter-class/

I have a webinar in the middle of the funnel and for the first email or two that follow it I send people to the webinar replay and it has a button beneath it that takes people to the sales page. But for the final two emails in the funnel I just go directly to the sales page. You might try testing a version of the sales page that drops the big header and more or less puts a video in that same space. The traditional thinking being that you always want to put your best foot forward and make sure that winning copy is always present. You never know if someone waited until the last day to take the time to even look at your sales page. If the important copy has been truncated you might lose the sale. Over all though, I don't think you'll go too wrong whatever you try. Everything is looking pretty pro.

ok that's helpful. I think it would be simple to add the video to a sales page and then just send them to that link for the last two emails. Thanks John!

Cool, sounds good. Can't wait to hear how things go once you get some traffic coming in.

The convo we had about the 1-2 minute vid for opt-ins made me wonder whether I need to tweak the sales video as well. It's a 6 minute vid and I'd really appreciate your critique. Thanks John!

I like it. The only things that went through my mind were that yo-yoing was a good set up but most wouldn't connect when hearing about yo-yoing in the music industry. If your story was more like theirs that might help. I also heard the word mindfulness a lot without much grasp of what mindfulness was exactly.

This may or may not work for you but what I often do is run ads directly to my sales page just to make sure it converts. It usually won't be profitable but if I can even get a .5% conversion rate then I know it works and can expect a higher conversion rate when I am running people through a funnel. It also gives you a more direct way of testing multiple sales pages.

I hear what you're saying about being relatable. I was trying to keep things tight and thought it might be the best way to simultaneously establish my credibility and tell a personal story that people find interesting...

I can try running ads to my sales page... so if I get 200 people there expect 1 to convert?

Yeah, i figured that's what you were going for. I think those credentials would be more important if you were trying to communicate your authority to other musicians. I think they are valid here and all, just thought it was a bit of a break in the dialogue that would be taking place in my mind if I was the average person focused on meditation. But who knows. It might serve you. testing will tell.

As for what to expect, there is no hard rule. You might see one sale every 200 clicks, maybe more, maybe less. You might even profit right out of the gate. I simply mean to say that it SHOULD convert to some extent. If you get no sales out of 200 clicks then you might want to look at changing up the sales page before you start focusing on your funnel. But there is nothing that says you can't do the funnel first and just watch your conversions. It was just a thought.

I like the idea of testing the sales page. The only sales vid I know for sure converts is that long form, 20 minute one... but I think conversions were low on that so I'd like to improve it...

Gotchya. I like sales videos to be under 10 minutes. But it's not a hard and fast rule. It's more about the strength of the content and your ability to create desire than it is about length.
