Hey John,
I'm thinking of running a "spring cleaning" campaign where people can buy my entire collection (3cds and an ep with illustrated storybook) for $25 or $27 (@ 30% or 25% off). Any thoughts on price?
I'd also like to offer the option to buy any single cd for regular price. My question is: if they opt to purchase a single cd at regular price, is there a way to set that up in paypal so they can just select which cd and I know which one to send?
Or, if not in paypal, is there a way to automate that selection process so I can keep track of what to send who?
Thanks John!
Hey Julianna, pricing seems reasonable. My mind always calculates an album as being worth $10, so $5 or $27 doesn't sound like much of a discount, especially if they know they can get your stuff o iTunes for $10. But then again, you need to make money. It's really up to you. The more you can afford to offer as a discount, the better. Maybe a digital price and a physical price? Bot with the 30% discount?
You can create a drop down window in Paypal with options. It's usually used for upgrades or options. Using it for actual album titles might be a bit clunky, but it could work.
You could also have someone code a drop down button that said something like, "select your album title" and then redirected to the different paypal buttons depending on what they selected. But that might not be worth the hassle. Scott coded something like that on viralmusictoolkit.com.
I usually just go with multiple order buttons.

Hey John, not sure I understand what you're saying about the price: if they got everything it would be $36 with no discount (the ep and storybook is $6.) With the discount I was either going to offer $9 off ($27) or $11 off ($25). I only want to do this as a digital offer. Are you saying I should offer it less? Not clear about that.
Also, sounds like ou're saying I can put multiple paypal buttons on one page so just do it that way instead of creating a drop down menu?
Thanks!
I was just saying that I read the offer and saw three CDs. My mind immediately calculated that as being worth $30 because iTunes has really established that as the going price for music. So even though you were actually offering it for a decent discount, my mind didn't really see it that way. I didn't immediately think "cool, good deal". Instead I thought, "that's not enough of a savings to make me want to take action". or something along those lines. It was just an impression thing. I think the price should ideally strike people as being cheaper than they expect for the package. But that was just my impression. I'm sort of splitting hairs. I think you could still go with the discount as proposed and do okay with it. More important that you just make offers and see what happens. If people don't go for it then you know you need to top it next time.
And yes, you can put multiple paypal buttons on the same page if you want to go that route. I tend to like it that way, so long as it doesn't look too chaotic.

ok thanks! I'm wondering whether to offer my how to meditate with music program as an upsell to my music fans just to see what happens?
Sure, why not. Run it for 5 or 20 sales or so and see what happens. It might miss, but I think it could just as easily work well. It definitely makes enough sense to try it, in my opinion.
