I'm experimenting with adding video to my sale's funnel.
Question # 1: Is the process the same as usual?
*step1: upload the mp4 to my ftp client... step2: grab the url... step3: then use the url in a video player WP plugin?*
Comment # 1: Right now I'm experimenting with "Spider." It's got a decent free version, but all videos are watermarked with their logo unless I upgrade to the paid version.
Question # 2: Do you know anything about Spider or other plugins as far as these 2 things that I want out of a video player?
*1 I want it to blow up to full screen size
*2 I DON"T want it to have an option to view on youtube (but I guess that wouldn't apply if I didn't upload it to youtube)

Hey Brian,
The process is the same in terms of using a video over a blog post. The medium is all that is changing.
I would probably not add the video to your server. It can get expensive. I use Amazon S3 to host my videos and I use Easy Video Player for the player. But they are pretty complicated. I'd probably just use an unlisted Youtube video unless the content was really sensitive. Then I'd take the video and embed it on a blog post or page on my site. You could also use something like vimeo.
I have never used Spider.

I was not aware that adding videos to Filezilla would eventually end up costing me? This info. is very useful if so, and yes~ building that relationship via video instead of a blog post is something I look forward to doing too. Thanks for you thoughts.

The video is very staggered and taking a long time to load for me, even after letting it buffer for a while. Hard to watch. Could be a one time glitch but I'm not having any other load time issues on Youtube content. Is there a reason you're apposed to just hosting the video on Youtube?

That's a bummer sorry 'bout that. It had the same issue for me the 1st time I watched it.. I certainly want the video to run smooth the 1st time new subscribers watch it.
Yes, there's a reason: The video is brand new, so I don't want the video to have few youtube views and comments when I send new subscribers to it. I realize the better POV would be that it will certainly build views as I run traffic to it. And those views and comments certainly will help my cause.
I just like the elegance of how you're able to host all your videos on your own MMM blog (Im aware you pay for that elegance). Plus youtube gives viewers the option to click away to another video once it's done, and they might not go back to finishing the last few lines of the blog that has links to the sales pg. But I'm certainly open to using youtube in my sales funnel for video/blog posts.

Hey Brian, how big is the file? You definitely want to sort out those load issue. Very few people will bother to wait for it to load.
I personally wouldn't stress the view count all that much. For starters, it will be embedded on your site and no one will see it unless they click over. Second, it won't be hard to get that view count up fairly quickly. Just a simple social media share should get the number up in the range where you don't need to feel weird about it. You can also change your settings so that Youtube does not show other videos when the video ends. If memory serves it's in the embed options.
On my MMM blog I post almost everything to Youtube. It's just my paid content, in the members areas, that I host on my own servers to prevent piracy. But ultimately you can go either way. If it's not exclusive content I personally like the idea of it being on Youtube because there is always the chance that other people will find the video and share it. It's just one more line in the water.
I think the video is great, and communicates a lot of things you have not been able to communicate thus far. It really brought you and your music into focus for me, even with all of the content I have reviewed. I think this will really do well for you.

The file is 253.1 MB. Shoot did it still load slowly for you? It just loaded slowly for me. But that may be the coffee shop I'm at, it seems that other youtube content is pretty slow right now too.
Cool, yeah either way I'll share the video w/my FB friends to get that count up-- or maybe even share the whole blog post with the video embedded in it if that feels right. Also I will check those embed settings to disable other video pop ups when the vid is over, thanks for notifying me of that setting. I now understand your thinking clearly on hosting private content on your own server, but public content on youtube- makes total sense. Thank you.

I'm excited about doing more video in the future- In fact, for some future test, I'd like trying video on my squeeze page. What's the best way to go about that as far as embedding, video size, video placement on the page, ect.?
I know how you feel about putting video or music on a squeeze page, and for good reason. For this next run I'm split testing one picture verses another, and I envision taking the winner and testing it against a squeeze page with a short video, if it makes sense. The youtube video loaded without issue. I did not try the old player again. 250mb is pretty big for a web video. That may be why there was an issue. I believe Youtube adjusts resolution depending on the viewers bandwidth.
Yeah, I felt like prior to this video I heard you saying you were a bass virtuoso, but I perhaps had a bit of natural skepticism. But this video SHOWED you as a bad ass bass player, playing for large crowds, etc. I thought it was great.
For a squeeze page I might try and even shorter version of this. It would only take 20 or 30 seconds of footage to convince most people, I'd think. You could start off with a short 5 second intro, show the montage, and then remind people to sign up for your free track. As far as how to embed it, just take the Youtube embed code and place it on the page where you otherwise would have used an image and quotes. If you still want to use quotes you could add them beneath the video. Pick whatever width you think looks best, and center the video.

Yeah man, I totally hate that term: "virtuoso." Esp. "bass virtuoso," for some reason that's even worse.
Thanks again John, that's awesome, and I like your idea of using 20/30 seconds of the same vid for the squeeze page. I was thinking of another video, but the same one might do well for continuity down the line when they see it again but get the whole picture.
As far as a 5 second intro, I'm thinking just set up a camera and say "Hi I'm Brian thanks for being here. I'd love for you to check out this Eccentric Bass Rock video and sign up for more~ thanks again and here's the video, I hope you enjoy..." Something like that maybe?
Yeah totally, "My name is Brian Rogers, thanks for being here. I'm a (briefly explain the kind of music you make), I've got some free music I'd like to give you but first I thought I'd give you a quick glimpse at who I am and what I do." Watch a few clips, cut back and say something like "So if you like what you heard than do me a favor and and enter your name and email address to the right and I'll email you a free copy of my latest single (or whatever you're giving away) and you'll have it in your inbox in just a few seconds. Thanks for watching". Or something like that.
And I didn't mean to imply that you literally used the word virtuoso. I just meant it figuratively.

Hey John, I really appreciate you shouting out my new video on the IC phone call to the listeners, that means a lot thank you! Speaking of the call, I forgot one question I wanted to ask...
I'm planning on turning off confirmed opt in for this next ad run, just to get as many subscribers as possible- only so I can really try to grab a couple hundred people in there to really see how conversions go.
After I get those numbers I plan on turning confirmed opt in back on for best practices purposes. But then it dawned on me: if someone's not gonna confirm their opt in, then they're probably not gonna buy or even open a blog email. And if that's the case, I may as well not even bother with them and leave confirmed opt-in on to get some super accurate conversion metrics...
The only other thing is maybe some folks WILL buy and be interested, but they just won't bother with business-y looking confirmed opt in emails. Is any of this thinking on the right track?

I think a couple things happen there. You lose some valid subscribers that were all set to subscribe and then the confirmation message scared them off. But on the other hand you will get some people that are curious and so they add a fake email just to see if they can get the freebie. In the case of the latter you will see your open rate go down as your list fills up with bogus emails. But I too have been turning the opt-in requirement off more and more lately, just to get that subscriber number as high as possible. It's ultimately your call though.

One off the cuff question about youtube to leave on: would you ever make a video public if it was in your sales funnel?
If it was in a blog post or something like that I might. If it was a sales video, or content that I was giving away or selling exclusively to people who took an action I would definitely not. Years ago I posted an old version of my blueprint video on Youtube and it got ripped by others and reposted all over the place. I can't stand it now. But if it was blog content I wouldn't be bothered at all.

I guess I wouldn't want that happening with that squeeze page video we were talking about- I'm actually in the middle of editing that video and wondering should I make it unlisted? And in that case, I guess you wouldn't recommend that I make a social media share of it to get some quick views?

I don't think you need to worry about the video on your squeeze page being shared. It's not exclusive. That getting shared can only help. What sucks is when someone subscribes or pays for content, only to find it on youtube. It makes them feel like they jumped through hoops to get special content that can easily be found for free. It would be like signing up for a download only to find the track for free everywhere else. No what I mean?

Ahhh yes of course, thanks for clearing that up. Makes total sense. Alright, geeky post alert...
Runnin some ads right now to http://www.brianrogersmusic.co...../freetrack Which is a squeeze page split test: both pages have the video up top, but one has shorter text at the bottom. The one with shorter text (b) is at 10 visitors and 3 subscribers (FB says I just got another subscriber but it's taking Aweber a minute to catch up, and the other page (a) is at 12 visitors 1 subscriber. It's funny because they both have the same video up top, one just has more words~ I guess people don't like to read
The split test calculator says I need 13 more visits to determine b the winner with 90% confidence.
The only thing that makes me scratch my head is the CTR. It's only 2.72%, whereas the last time I ran this exact same ad back in Feb. or April, the CTR was around 7% and settled around 5.9%. The two things I figure are that that ad back then had a lot more likes, shares and a couple comments, whereas this ad I'm running now is starting from scratch as it's a new URL I'm running traffic to because of the split test. So with no ad love people aren't clicking as much.
Or... the ad has just run it's course and I need to find new images and a new audience too. I'm paying 0.27 per click whereas before it was 0.12-0.13 per click. I've spent 6.48 (daily budget 25 bucks) since I started the ad 6 hours ago.
With the winning squeeze page currently at 30% I can kinda say that if all 23 visitors I've sent to both pages were just sent to that winning page I'd have about 7 subscribers. In that case I'd be paying 0.92 a subscriber. That's under a dollar. But with that ad CTR back at where it used to be, I'd probably cut that number in half. Just geekin out on speculation right now, I know I have to let the ad run. At least FB kinda likes the ad with an 8/10 relevance score, whatever that means.

Awesome! To be honest, I can barely even spot the difference. To me they look so close. I'd say that you don';t have enough statistical significance here yet and you'd want at least 100% visitors to each page to really be sure. But if the trend continues then it's safe to pick a winner. One thing I'd test is a headline above the video vs no headline like you have it.
I think the video is great. Does exactly what it should. You;re really coming along with this stuff 🙂
And you're numbers are off to a great start as well.
Is the targeting the same with this new ad, as it was before? That can be a major factor to a CTR. If it was the same then it would be hard to say what the difference is. It could the social proof factor that you mentioned, it could be the time of year, it could be changes to FB's algorithm. It could be any number of things.
There is a very good chance it has to do with recent changes to the way CPC works at FB.
