I've sold a number of CDs to those in European countries, and I know that jazz is actually "bigger" outside the US (i.e., Europe). CDs that I've sold outside "the four" English-speaking countries have not been via paid advertizing. I'm wondering what considerations I might take into account if I want to start advertizing to, for example, those in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, etc.

Should I translate my ads, key words, and squeeze pages? Or is that going to set me up to having to always communicate in foreign languages? LOL! I'm just sort of thinking out loud and wondering if anyone has gone down that route. I suppose I could advertize in foreign countries, keep my key words in english, and assume that those who search for those key words know english! Any wisdom here? Any translation services I might consider (besides Google Translate)?

Thanks!

It's a good question. Normally my advice is to stick with your own language because at the end of the day this is all about communication. BUT, seeing as you have a pretty good handle on this I think it's worth playing with.

There are two approaches i can personally envision...

1. Just keep everything in English and target computers that are set to English with PPC. SEO sort of takes care of that for you because of the keywords people will be searching.

2. Hire someone to translate everything for you and create a unique funnel just for that language. You would need to translate everything. I wouldn't use Google translate though. I'd start with Fiverr.com and really look for someone who is obviously doing a good job. Reach out to a few of them and make sure they are not just using fiverr and that they understand that you need someone who can understand and translate any slang you use accordingly. I'll bet you find someone. But I think you're still kind of left with PPC unless you want to get into some kind of complicated SEO. I've personally never dealt with trying to rank in other countries, and as far as I know there is a whole IP address factor when it comes to building backlinks. Still, it could be done.
