Hi John-

So I launched my 3 ad sets 2 days ago. I've gotten a 112 link clicks but only 2 subscribers. So a price of about $27 each. yikes. Which leads me to believe I really need to step up my squeeze page. Weirdly, the ad copy is nearly identical to the squeeze page copy so it's not like these are out of alignment with each other. Budget for each ad was $10 and it's a Traffic Campaign. Attaching a screenshot of ad manager for reference.

Relevancy scores were around 4 and 5.

On the bright side I received a really nice message on one of my ads by one of my subscribers and same subscriber got my blog post of a lifetime this morning and sent me a thoughtful e-mail about it.

I'm turning the campaign off for the time being. Any suggestions for re-grouping?

Thanks!

Matt

p.s. here's my squeeze page headline:

"ACCLAIMED EAST COAST INDIE ARTIST MATT SHAPIRO ARTFULLY AVOIDS POP CLICHÉS WHILE PUTTING HIS OWN DREAMY, LO-FI SPIN ON POST-PUNK AND NEW WAVE MUSIC..."

Here's new one I'm toying with:

"MATT SHAPIRO IS AN EAST COAST INDIE ARTIST WHO INFUSES HIS ENGINE-REVVING 80'S ALT-POP SOUND WITH SUBSTANCE AND DREAMY SENSUALITY... "

Thoughts? i think saying "80's alt-pop" is easier to connect with than "new wave and post-punk music"

Thanks!

Matt

Hey Matt,

That's definitely a disappointing start. All we can do is tweak and turn it around.

To begin with,

1. Even though two days is not long enough for FB's algorithm to do it's thing, when results are that dismal, you should shut things down even sooner.

It's not uncommon to see prices go from $5 per sub to $1 per sub, but if you have spent $20 and not gotten a subscriber, or many for that matter, things are never going to work out with that campaign. You can turn it off sooner and save yourself some money.

2. Almost every profitable campaign I've ever had has a relevance score of 8 - 10. Occasionally a 7. While the relevance score is just an indicator and doesn't mean that much in and of itself, that shows us that something is way off. Most likely your targeting in this case.

3. One problem that I'm seeing is that your targeting options don't seem to line up with your USP. At least to my mind. When we were focused on your USP in your other thread, we were discussing who you were, not who you were targeting. I don't know that the image you've painted with your headline speaks to fans of Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, or the Cure. The USP we settled on has more of a gritty feel to it to me. (East Coast, low fi, post punk, etc). What are your thoughts there?

4. What were your other demographic settings for each campaign? Age, location, etc?

5. Did you use the Creative Dynamic method to split test a number of elements? I strongly recommend doing that.

It's possible you might be able to turn this around as is, but I think some blending of your headlines and the interests of your audience need to take place. The relevance score is the canary in the coalmine. If it's not 7 or higher, something is off.

Hey John-

Thanks for the reply.

My demo range was broad- 25-55. Location was US and Canada. Was thinking these would just be a starting point and I could tweak once I get some meaningful data

As far as targeting you may be right. Clearly the numbers don't lie. I'm just not sure my music is as gritty/ edgy as perhaps I made it out to be? I guess I'm finding it hard to be objective about my own sound.  I chose Arcade Fire cause they're sort of an umbrella indie band and people that like them seem to like a lot of other Indie bands that I might have some overlap with (The Walkmen, Interpol, LCD Soundsystem). The Cure is the most relevant act from those new wave/ post punk days still going that is not mega huge (like say U2). And Kings Of Leon is an Indie band with a more mainstream sound/ crossover audience.

I have some other targeting in mind. But I think I really need to tweak my USP/ squeeze page headline and ad copy.

I did not do any split testing other than with  images (3). I hadn't watched the Dynamic Creative method video but will check it out now...

Gonna retool things and try again.

Onwards...

Matt

Hey John-

Here's a tweak on my squeeze page headline. I think it's more on-point to what my EP actually sounds like and a bit sexier (I think) than what i had prior. Is this resonating or do i have my head up my ass here?

“NYC-BASED INDIE ARTIST MATT SHAPIRO BLENDS REVERB-SOAKED 50’S SWAGGER WITH A LO-FI TAKE ON 80’S NEW WAVE FOR A DREAMY TRIP TO THE DRIVE-IN ON THE THE DARK SIDE OF TOWN… “

I think that sounds compelling, just so long as you target the right crowd. It makes me think of the TV show Riverdale.

I would just be sure to watch the Creative Dynamic lesson I mentioned. It takes away a lot of the guess work. You just test things and see which elements click and then dwindle down from there.

Let me know how it goes.

Hey John-

Cool. Yeah, I feel much better about the headline now. I also tweaked some of the other squeeze page stuff to line-up better. I worked through the Dynamic Creative lesson- amazing feature. Put together a new campaign over the weekend and launched about half hour ago. Hoping things improve this go round.

I haven't seen Riverdale but am gonna check it out. Fans of certain TV shows and movies could be a good way for me to target.

Will let you know how it goes.

THANK YOU!!

Matt
