 Hey Guys,

I want to be a big superstar in the music industry within next 2 years. I love what john taught us. I am not interested in making record deal but I want control all things about my music. My goal is not make money from music, I want that name like Michael Jackson or Higher. Money needed but money isn't everything. May be it sounds crazy. But Yeah I want to be like that.

Few questions come into my mind.

How much these big record labels spend on their artists? So can get a bit knowledge to get that mainstream popularity. My first aim is to make money with music to live a better life by using John's Strategy. I am from India and passionate about music and dancing. I can dance better than any other dancer out there. It doesn't mean that they are not good. I wanted to the world something unique and different moves. I am curious about my music in the same manner. I want to make music that never heard before. I have really tight budget to make living in my Country.

These days john is focusing on paid advertising. I don't have that much budget to get results from it. Free traffic seems to be so much time consuming. If I go this way I will never gonna reach my target.

To make a living I teach dance in India. I am not interested in teaching. I love to perform. But I can't. I haven't sold a single CD in last 4 years. But I know what I have learnt here is far more valuable than selling music.

I am focusing on increasing my income to advertise with Facebook. Thanks for the reading me guys.

Hey Vishal,

It's certainly great to have goals. You have some lofty ones, to be sure. To answer your questions...

How much do labels spend: To break a record on the level you are describing they spend millions. You need to use branding strategies to bombard an entire market with impressions until you create a tipping point. There is a LOT of risk with these strategies. They fail more than they succeed.

What I would suggest based on your limited budget, is to focus on building a local audience using the kind of strategies I teach. Even if you only drive traffic by gathering email addresses at shows. Once you have an audience locally and are making money from your shows, expand into the larger region in your area. Once you have a regional audience, expand nationally. If you can do that (even on a local level), chances are you will attract the attention of someone who can bring the kind of money to the table that you will need in order to achieve what you hope to achieve. At the same time I would be reinvesting a percentage of your income into shows.

Hope that helps.

Yes! you are right John,

I'm not gonna invest all of my to become famous. If I make millions using your strategies then I will definitely will do that. But not all of my money. As you said in recent past, test things then decide which works best and then stick with it.

My target audience is not Indian crowd. Because I have not seen anyone who bought a music album here. No music store in my local area. Even though people don't buy music here. So few, I mean so rare when someone bought an album. Because people are here want each and every song for free. Music business doesn't exists here. Bollywood movies are famous here. All major music artists work for movie songs. They don't sell music here. They sell their music to the producers of those movies and make money. In India, there is no sells charts like billboard or iTunes. Even if come up with a idea of selling music, sponsors will never gonna understand what I am saying. I am in a market, which is not exists in India. 1.25 billion people here but most of them non music buyers as compared to US. Purchasing power is way too low. And this why I turned to Internet to sell my music in those developed countries. My main focus is US crowd and after that UK, Canada and European countries. As an experiment I will definitely come back to India to see how things will work. But now I can't put money in my local areas.

Hi Vishal,

Steve here.  It sounds to me like you are approaching the issue in India, as if you are looking for the traditional music industry.  One of the major differences between that approach and what John is teaching is that John's material is attempting to show you a path to success that exists outside of the traditional music industry.

That said, your big impact is going to be on a personal level with your subscribers and fans.  That's where you are going to have your biggest impact, as you will be attempting to sell to them on a person-to-person basis.  With this in mind, as long as someone has a credit card to order from you, you ca have success with the strategy, even where there aren't record stores.  Your website is the only record store that matters, if that makes sense.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the support. I am gonna use both of these strategies which is direct response marketing and branding strategies. I am gonna to save money for Facebook advertising around $2000. I know this will be my final take to the music. As I am also gonna record a new album which is mix up of dubstep, trance, ambient hip-hop, rock and some other styles of music which I really like. Few tracks will be futuristic songs. Which will remain ever green to the listeners.

I want some upsell ideas. Like I am a music composer, singer songwriter and dancer. I could make music videos for my upcoming album. Can I sell those videos to my fans as an upsell?
What about big ticket items like $5000 to $10000. I am a good painter too. Even though as a big ticket items. I could compose a special song for those who are interested to have their name or maybe their story of their life, I could write a song on them and compose it.

Hi Vishal.

I understand what you are saying about India not being a market where one can expect to sell many albums. I was thinking that you could generate revenue from performances. With dance being so centric to what you are doing I would think live shows would be essential. They'd also be a way to make some decent money... or so I would think.

A word of caution on high ticket items... People are only likely to spend a lot of money with you when they are die hard fans. You will need to really galvanize your base before you can ever hope to be selling $5000 items. That was part of the reason I felt that focusing on initial growth close to home was important. If live shows are part of what you do, then building your base close to home will serve you well because you can promote your events to your list. You won't have that opportunity when promoting over seas. That's my thinking anyway.
