Hey Elliot,

Of those two I like ejeffmusic.com, but I probably like elliottJeffriesMusic.com better if you need a second domain. You're right that it;s harder to remember if people are seeing the domain in print, so if that's your plan you might be right to go with something simpler, but I like the branding benefit of using your actual name in the domain.

Hope that helps.

It's not too big of a deal either way. If you're running traffic online than I like elliottjeffriesmusic.com. If you are going offline then something more memorable with no potential spelling mistakes makes sense. Keep us posted.

Hi Elliot,

I was actually just having this same discussion with another artist a few days ago.  Basically his deal was that his name has some spelling hazards, but his name is his name.  That's what he's going by, so that's what he should use in the domain.

I agree with John here.  ElliotJeffriesMusic.com is what I would go with.  The thing is with me, and I explained this to the other artist too, is that I tend to actually say a person's name out loud, when I read it in a domain name for some reason.

If you are going by Elliot Jeffries, then that's what you want to put out there and get people saying out loud.

If spelling is the issue, you can always buy misspelled domains and point them to your real one.  eg. EliotJeffreys.com , especially if you believe that misspellings are costing you $10- $12 per year (the cost of the domain).

I'm assuming that no matter the name, you would just have a link to click on instead of making someone type it in. If that's the case I'm not going to worry too much about misspellings. Without a link, it's almost guaranteed my name will be typed incorrectly because I have double letters that are often missed.ConfusedThanks!

Hey Elliott, that's correct. If you are just focused on online traffic then it's not an issue because people will just click. But if you hope to promote it offline or at shows, you could get something more memorable. And not to worry, you can always buy another domain later and just forward it to whatever page you want.

Sounds good. you should be fine then. The only other real thing you need to think about for online is the fact that the URL will display in some places, such as in Facebook ads. Shouldn't be any issue with that URL, but just something to think about.

Just to confirm what I'm going to think about: whatever url I chose should be tied in with what I'm doing or be connected in some way so it makes sense.

basically yes. For example, if you were giving away free music it might be off if your Facebook Ad displayed the URL artlessonswithelliott.com, or whatever. It would seem a bit incongruous. It's a minor detail, but the URL will likely effect your CTR ever so slightly.
