Hi Everyone,

There appears to be *some* interest in how to use Google Analytics when it comes to marketing your website and I've volunteered to put together a crash course on how to do this for anyone who's interested.

I have a lot of great information to share but really would prefer to have a good case-study from a band among us who already 'gets' the marketing side of things but hasn't had the time (or perhaps the tech know-how) to setup up Google Analytics.

If you're interested - I will install and setup analytics for you on your website if you meet the following criteria:

  1. You have a working optin page hooked up to an auto responder like Aweber or Mailchimp
  2. You have a download/thank you page
  3. You have traffic coming to this page daily, hopefully with a few conversions per week.
  4. Your band is active, and you promote your squeeze page online
  5. Ideally - your website is built on Wordpress but I will also work with html-based sites
  6. You're cool with giving me admin access to your site & possibly your autoresponder
  7. You're cool with giving me admin access to your Google Analytics website profile
  8. You're cool with being an example site in the training - that will be visible to current and future members of the Insider Circle.
  9. (there is no step nine)

This is a wish list and I may be able to work with more than one band time permitting. The main thing is that you need to have a working optin and download funnel and traffic coming to it so that we have great data feeding analytics that I can then show you how to use to improve your site.

Send me your website URL with a link to your optin and download pages (you can do this via PM) so that I can check them out and see if you're the right fit for this case study.

General questions can be answered in this forum.

Thanks!

Whoa there - don't all volunteer at once!

The way I look at it - the problem is at least one of the following:

  1. You don't have an optin page setup to your liking
  2. You don't know what the heck a marketing 'funnel' is
  3. You don't have *enough* traffic coming to your site (hint - enough is never enough)
  4. You don't feel comfortable having your site be shown as an example to the rest of the forum
  5. You're all a bunch of bots! (Just kidding....maybe)

If you're not comfortable with being an example and that's the only thing holding you back - I'm willing to obscure your identity in any of the examples that we use. I'd do this by only using digitally altered graphics that wouldn't review the URLs etc that could be tied back to your band.

There, let's see if that helps to open the flood gates?

Hey Mike, it may also just be that those who are already seeing decent traffic have tracking in place.

...I guess that's a good explanation as well!

I would have been able to volunteer for this, but my site has been lost, so I have to start all over again from scratch. I only got daily conversions when I ran the Twitter strategy. I have just discovered Tweet Deck and with that, I think I can target my following to try and manually duplicate a sign up or two every other day I'm not sure about that.

I could let you know when I have just my squeeze page and funnel up. I will get a Wordpress up too, maybe it would be interesting to see how things work with a squeeze page only?

I haven't ever had the time to look at Google Analytics, so I would still be interested in this if you still don't have anyone.

Hi Tim,

I'm sorry to hear that your site has been lost. You probably already tried this - but make sure you check with your hosting service because sometimes they can pull your fat out of the fire by recovering default backups they take every week or so.

Drop me a line once you have your site online again and I'd be more than happy to set you up with analytics.

Also, I highly recommend that you get a Wordpress backup plugin like Backup Creator. It's less than $10/year for a personal license and it will clone your entire Wordpress site so that you don't have to ever worry about losing it again. It also facilitates moving to a new host, because you can move your files over manually yourself in only a few minutes - a nice option to have if you're not happy with your current host and they're making life difficult for you.

Hi Mike. Yes, unfortunately I have learned two very hard lessons in trying to find someone to aid me in my career. If they don't have as deep a stake in it as I do, then I'm the only one that suffers if they decide to quit doing it.

My squeeze page is almost ready, I will message you when it's ready to go.

Yes, backups are something I will incorporate into my schedule, so thank you for that advice.

I'll be in touch soon Smile

Hi Tim,

That's really deep advice about what happens when you work with someone who doesn't have as much stake in your career as you do. I've been chewing on that thought for the last few days since I received the notification that you made this post.

Everyone should take it to heart. Nobody's going to care as much about your career as you will, and also - trying to bargain with someone to get them down to the cheapest possible price ends up with everyone losing.

If you "win" and get someone to agree to working for cheap, they will grudgingly do the work and must likely - it will suck or never get finished.

You get to "save" money but in the end you lose out because the work won't be finished or at the best quality and ultimately it's your career or reputation that will suffer for it.

Your words have hit me from the other angle - of being a 'provider' of a service and experiencing more than my fair share of people who want you to deliver the moon to them and single-handedly rescue their business from bankruptcy (or help them launch a business that is really just a lame website without any true business model or a target audience) for next to nothing.

Sorry to go off topic here - I guess you struck a chord with me, probably in a way you didn't even intend.

Mike
