We want to do a one time video contest on facebook. I know there are a few paid apps out there but has anyone

had any luck just doing the contest on their facebook page's timeline? We are asking fans to post their kid's interactions

with our new children's CD. Many parents say that the kids love it but there is no incentive for parents to post video clips

for us. So we decided to offer prizes to the winners. It seems pretty simple but wanted to know

your thoughts and best practices.

Hey Rudy,

Really sorry for the slow response. Both my kids have been sick this week so I haven't been online as much as usual.

Contests without third party apps used to be prohibited. Fortunately that changed recently. You might want to look over FB's rules here: https://fbcdn-dragon-a.akamaih.....7568_n.pdf

One of the better contests I have seen (in fact it's the only FB contest I ever took the time to enter, and also happen to have won) was a contest held by an artist I admire. He posted a funny picture of a dog in a car and asked people to write a caption. best caption won a free print (which normally sold for $300). Once the contest was over he followed up with all the people who entered to thank them for entering and he offered them 20% off the same print as a consolation prize, for a limited time of course :-). He also posted that offer on the winners page (a blog post with the contest info) and shared that link in the contest thread and on his timeline.

The contest was funny, fun to engage with and share, and I bet he made a lot of money off of that discount offer.

By no means the only way to run a contest, but it was a good example of one.
