A few months ago I put together an order of 29 000 CDs for the cover of a local (South Africa) parenting magazine.

Apart from the fact that we made a healthy profit, I thought it would be a good way to drive traffic to my squeeze page. It wasn't.

In the end I had about 80 people sign up (out of 29 000!)

The magazine has asked us to put together another CD (29 500 units). Any ideas to generate more traffic this time?

I've included an image of the previous cover: CD CoverImage Enlarger

cover looks great.  i think the thing that would keep folks from signing up is that they already have the music.  1 extra song probably isnt enough to entice them to open their computer, type the url, and sign up.  Maybe come up with something overwhelmingly worth the effort of going online.  The first thing that comes to mind is karaoke versions of your songs...I used to teach music and I know music teachers LOVE to have versions of the songs without vocals for music lessons or assemblies/performances.  Just and idea.  But you could have a free download of all of the songs when they sign up?  Or maybe just 1-2 songs and then hit them up with an LTO to get the rest?

Hi Graeme,

I agree with what Dean says. Also - visually - the CD artwork is beautiful but there are SO many elements that draw the eye. The bonus track offer doesn't stand out enough against everything else. If you make the offer look like an important thing within the design, I would guess you would get more sign ups.

How much will this cost you? As a general rule, I think online advertising is always going to get you a far better ROI than offline advertising. As Dean touched on, there are just too many steps. Assuming this is going to cost you a few thousand bucks... I think you'd be much better off just spending the money on FB PPC directly to your squeeze page. I can promise you you will get FAR more sign ups as a result.

Thanks for all the advice Dean and Annie. I'm going to try a simpler look on the back with a better offer to try and entice them.

John, the great thing about this is I make a very healthy profit on the deal, so any new subscribers I get as a result of the CD will b e a bonus.

I see, I misunderstood. I thought you were paying a lot of money. Sounds like a great deal then, regardless of what you get.
