Which is best?

I'm using a pretty small budget, £3 per day, figuring Facebook can allocate the budget to the most effective audience at the most effective time.

It started off great, pulling subscribers for £0.60 to £0.30 each with confirmed opt in. But the last few days, the conversion has crashed, rising to £1.20 to £1.50 per subscriber.

I changed out my AdSets to new audiences, but was wondering if this could also be a factor?

Thanks!

Hey Sam,

The budgets are set on the ad set level. However, that kind of fluctuation is pretty normal in my experience. While you do need to watch the daily price, I tend form my conclusions based on the weekly price. Is this what you're asking?

Thanks John.

That is good to know that variation is to be expected - but I must have been a bit vague about my question.

Facebook has the option to set a budget on the campaign level, or the ad level. I've been setting mine on the campaign level (no real reason for this). I was wondering if you had a recommendation for campaign level or AdSet level budget management?

Hey Sam,

I have never encountered an option for setting a budget on the campaign level. Only the ad set level, and this is how it has been for years. I just went through it to make sure nothing new was added and I'm not seeing a campaign budget option. You mind showing me a screenshot of what you are referring to?

Ah, ok. Got it. I had to do some reading up on this. It's a relatively new feature and has rolled out slowly across Facebook. Not sure when it hit my account but I am only seeing it now for the first time. Needless to say, I don't use it. That said, it does look like it can be handy in certain situations.

The reason you would want to use a campaign budget is to have your ad sets compete against each other. In other words, you have a limited budget but still want to test multiple ad sets. If you want to see how watch ad set performs on it's own, or scale up and go after multiple audiences at the same time, don't use a campaign budget. If you want to optimize your ad sets and spend your budget only on the ad set that is performing best, then it looks like it can be pretty handy.

That make sense?

Aah then that is perfect for what I want. I'm on a crazy tight budget and until this funnel breaks even / profits, I can't scale.

So I'll keep it on the campaign level budget (£3/day) until I'm ready to scale, and then move to ad set level budget - is that the correct move?

Sounds good. Shortly after posting I went and gave it a try on a new campaign for a client. Spending $30/day and so far it's been the best performing campaign I've had for this artist. There are a lot of other reasons why this might be so, but so far, so good.

Yeah, I'm a huge fan of the setting. Perfect for people on a limited budget. Have used it on a number of campaigns since and having good luck across the board.
