Hi John, wondering if you could offer some guidance here.. I was recently filmed during a recording session for another act where I featured as the guest vocalist.. the video will be released online via their own FB page. My understanding is that you can't boost or advertise anyone else's FB post that you share on your own page.. Is there another way I can make this happen? Cheers :~)
You cannot directly boost or advertise anything from someone else's page. Your only real option is to upload the video to your own page and advertise it that way.
If they are friends of yours, you could ask them to make you a page manager and you could theoretically boost the post. But you would be doing it as them, which they might not like.
Am I understanding your goals correctly enough?

Yes, you are understanding the objective.. What about the "crossposting" feature in the video settings? Is this something you have used?

Just not sure if this only relates to other pages that linked to your own page, or if it could work as a way to share video that was uploaded to someone else's page by them allowing you to crosspost?
Hey Dino,
I take it back. This is not a feature I have used and I was actually not aware of it. I'm not sure if there would be limitations or not, in terms of editing the text associated with the video post/title/description. Looks like you can do it though.
However, why not just ask permission upload a copy of the video to your page? Most people would be ok with this. And this way you have more control and access to metrics and retargeting capabilities. You can just rip it with something like Clipgrab and then re-upload it. But I would only do so with permission. It would just save them the trouble of transferring the original file.

Hi John, now that I have used the "crossposting" feature I thought I would provide an update which may be useful for others in this community as well.
To recap, a video which featured me recording in the studio with another artist was uploaded to the other artist's FB page which they shared with their audience and network. Naturally I was able to also share the post to my network.. but the problem with sharing video posts from another page is that (1) the video posts that you share don't show up in your page's video library.. and (2) you can't boost or advertise a shared post. This is where the "crossposting" feature in FB can be useful..
I requested (and was approved) "crossposting" access to the video that was uploaded to the artist's page.. and then I was able to use the same video to create & publish my own posts and also utilize for my own ad campaign.
Key benefits: (1) Both pages get the benefit of the shared view counts.. (2) The original video title remains in tact but you can completely edit the video description to create your own post copy. (3) Your page becomes the originator of any posts you create & publish using that video.. and (4) You can use the "crossposted" video for your own ad campaigns or boosted posts without any limitations (aside from the original title remaining in tact).
In summary, I think it is a gr8 feature that not many people are aware of which is worth exploring for other possibilities beyond the above.
Hope that info helps.. cheers Dino :~)
Thanks for sharing Dino. If I'm able to personally find a regular use for it I'll perhaps make a training lesson about it at some point down the line. Great find.
