Greetings MasterMinds! Would you please give feedback or suggestions on how I could make any improvements/additions on our bio? Thanks Gang, greatly appreciated.

 King of Hearts

We are Dawn and Robert King. We live, love and make
music in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. Music has hugely influenced both
of us since tender ages. Robert has been playing covers in bands since he was a
teenager, first as a saxophonist, and then as a singer, guitar player and
songwriter. Dawn has been a vocalist since her teen years too. We both love all
kinds of radio-friendly songs, from rock to country and latin to pop – even
standards.

Together we have just finished ten years as an
energetic, entertaining, highly versatile and successful cover duo. While we
have enjoyed this decade of performing covers, we’ve always wanted to move our
focus to original music. Robert is a Nashville-trained songwriter and has been
writing songs for many years. This year we made the conscious decision to move
exclusively to perform Robert’s original songs. We will make this our reality
in early 2012!

Why? Our songs are current, melodically and musically, and in a
variety of styles. They are songs you can dance to, smooch too, maybe get a
room too! Seriously though, the songs celebrate living, loving and having a
blast while staying very much in love with each other and with this amazing
life! Some of the songs offer inspiration, while others are just fun, and some
have “attitude.” It is our hope and vision that our music moves people's hearts
and minds to live the best life(while it keeps their toes tapping)!

The King of
Hearts - music that inspires you to love your life … and love each other

Sounds like a pretty good bio to me! Very to the point describes what you do. If anything, since as far as this bio goes, you are concentrating on your originals, I would suggest being a bit more descriptive as to the main style of your originals.....more rock, more country, more????   I know that is hard to do when you do a lot of different styles. I'm in the same boat. But if you imagine you were a new listener, how would they describe your music, in just a few words?

BTW, I hate it when I have to do this for my own music, but it sure beats a lot of things other people have to do at their occupation!

What would a jam session with Gordon Lightfoot, Collective Soul, and Damien Rice sound like?

Check out Greg Parke and you’ll have a pretty good idea!

Hi Dawn,

The writing is good and clear and there is certainly nothing wrong with it. I'm one of those people who only reads/listens to/watches the first few seconds of something and has already decided what I think. If it were me I would make the first paragraph very heavy on your accomplishments and then support it with your personal story. If I'm reading a band bio I am looking to figure out if they are a big deal or if they are just another struggling act with no story. So maybe try leading with your buzz words and hooks and then explain how you got there. I think this is especially important when you are writing a bio for the industry.

...This of course is just one opinion. And again, I think what you already have would work just fine.

Wow, very good points to consider John. I'm in process of re-writing my own bio, so the timing is perfect! I know I tend to get to "wordy" when I write, so your statement about the "first few seconds" really hits home. Thanks!

Hi Paul, I think it's good. But like my comment a few threads up, I also think you might start with your accomplishments and then explain your story. That's totally just my opinion. When I read a bio i am trying to suss out if this artist is a "big deal". Accomplishments impress me more than the description of the music or the artistic journey, because I know damn well that the artist is going to describe their music in a very flattering way.

With that said, if I am impressed that the artist has a lot going on, my next question is, "what's the music like?"

But again, it's good as it is. That's just my two cents worth.

Good job Paul, I personally like it a lot better. As a former club promoter who has received a boat load of packages from artists, that would pull me in a lot more.
