OK I don't know if this has been covered before, I searched a bit but didn't find an answer...
One of my subscribers immediately bought our Album, I need advise as to where to put him on Aweber lists, wel I only got one "sdbnewfans" He has already been sent the #2 message giving him another free track...after he already bought the album...I wasn't prepared....doh!! Thanks I'd appreciate some solid advice here :0
You want to create a second list for customers and go in to automation and set things up so that when someone subscribes to the customer list they are automatically unsubscribed from the general list.
Congrats on the sale! Always nice to see folks getting results 🙂

Thanks John, so once someone is on the "customer" list they would only recieve Broadcast emails then? If the list is selected for Broadcast of course, but is there another set of auto responses just for customers? Thanks again
That's great, Dave! Congrats man. It's much better to get the sale and mess up something minor like this then to wait to start marketing until you've got it "all figured out". Now you know.
Nicely done, bro. Here's to many more!

Thanks Steve
I connected my Pay Pal to Aweber through the Aweber Apps to "move" my subscribers from my prospect list (named sdbnewfans) to my customer list (named sdbcustom) when some purchases. I suspect this only works when someone buys from my BandCamp site. I don't have a CD Baby account..yet?
Question: As I understand it, if I did have a CD baby account, a customer would not be "moved" to the customer list because there is no email type notification from CD Baby to Aweber?
The thing is, when someone is "moved" from one list and unsubscribed from the other, that person has to click on a opt in confirmation link again to confirm that they are aware and are agreeing to be moved to a new list.
Question: Should I customize the "Confirmed Opt In" message?
The standard Confirmation that Aweber uses has wording like
"Confirm your Subscription"
"We received your request for information from the sdbcustom
group. Before we begin sending you the information you
requested, we want to be certain we have your permission."
Maybe you could suggest a message that's a little more subtle and friendly, what do you use?
Maybe I'm being a little paranoid here, but I'm uneasy with sending my customer an email asking them to "opt in" all over again, which I have several customers now that I would like to move to my customer list so they don't keep getting the same pitch to buy what they have already bought which I guess would be the case with CD Baby or other distribution.
Thanks John, Steve or anyone else who can help me out here
PS: Should I set up a "Success Page"?
Hi Dave - could you just turn off the confirmed opt-in for the customer list? (and I'm glad you're asking the questions about getting the customer's email - they are exactly what I want to know)

Hey Dave,
Robin has it right here.
For the customer list you want to turn confirmed opt-in off. By the time they buy, they have already confirmed that they own the email address, but they have also already given you permission to contact them. No need to do it again and risk losing a PAYING subscriber. (you're uncomfortable instincts are spot-on here)
Also check and see if there is a plugin to integrate aweber to CDBaby's checkout process.
Some of these services are starting to catch on to the fact that more and more people own their email marketing solutions and are in need of integration. Also check Aweber's developer zone to see if there is any documentation about integrating with CDBaby.
If there is not any, make a feature suggestion. I just got a free month of service from my autoresponder service when they implemented a feature suggestion that I had submitted. Can't beat free...
Thanks Robin and Steve, greatly appreciated 😀

Thanks Steve – I have been thinking there was something wrong with me because I couldn't find a perfect solution (ie Aweber somehow knows when a particular email address has bought something, using cdbaby, drop shipping etc) – but I'm beginning to realise there isn't one! (There seems to be only selling it from your living room with Paypal, or maybe some expensive service).

That would be totally up to you. I don't personally have an autoresponder sequence for customers, but you could if you had another product that you wanted to move quickly.

Hey Dave,
I STRONGLY suggest always changing your confirmation messages so they don't have the word "subscription" in them. That really scares people.
I use lines like "Response Required: Please confirm your request for your free bonus track" or something like that. I also customize the message so it's more personal and explains that I just need them to verify that I have the right email address.
As far as how I would do it with CD Baby... You can't turn of the confirmed opt in option if you are manually adding the info, so you would need to offer a bonus or some kind of incentive for a free track.
You could try something like...
Subject: I've got your free bonus track here...
Body: Thanks for ordering my album "title". I've got a free bonus track for you as my way of saying thanks. Before I can send it to you I just need to make sure I have your permission. Please click the link below to confirm and I'll shoot the download link right over to you.
Aweber can be touchy about these custom messages so you might have to play with it until they will approve it, but that's the idea.
Ideally you control the sales process yourself so you can do all of this automatically without the extra step.

Hey Robin,
Unfortunately you can't turn the confirmed opt-in option off when you are manually entering people. If you could do this people could just spam people all day long.
You can turn it off if they are entering their info via a web form. But I would not try and cheat the system and enter their names into the web form yourself. See my other answer to Dave's question for more of an explanation.
I personally almost never turn off the confirmed opt-in with the exception of some paid advertising campaigns where I want quick conversions. And as it happens, it's those list that have the lowest open rates. I suspect it really does hurt deliverability when you turn it off.

Thanks John - I guess it's back to the drawing board for finding a simple method for segmenting the list into buyers and non-buyers

Hey Robin,
Hope I didn't give you the wrong impression. A workaround is pretty simple. See my response to Dave above.
The other very simple option is to just take orders yourself via paypal and use a drop shipping service if you don't want to ship yourself.

Thanks again John. Yep the workaround looks like a good option.
Dave said earlier that Bandcamp can tell Aweber who has bought, so that looks like a good option too. Cheers.
Sorry Dave, John and Robin
I must have missed the part about adding them manually. You definitely can't turn off confirmation on those. I was speaking from the understanding that the sale was being bounced to a new list automatically and that list was accidentally set to send out a confirmation message... which kind of defeats automating the bounce in a sense.

No problem Steve
The app in Aweber lets me intergrate my Pay Pal account with my email list and will move a prospect from that list to the customer list and there on the customer list I have turned off the opt in.
As for the moving them manually I will try the work around John suggests.

Hey Robin
BandCamp uses your Pay Pal account to deposit transactions. When someone buys on BandCamp they are required to enter their email add (all selling sites do I think) Then BC sends you a notification that someone has bought and what that email is and that info also goes to Pay Pal and they also tell you the email add.
With the Aweber Pay Pal app, that info automatically moves a person from one list to the other. There is where I have the confirmed opt in off, in my customer list. I would think that is ok beings that they have opted in once but I may stand corrected? John..Steve? Hope I'm helping out here

Hi Dave - yes I thought that was what you were talking about Good stuff.
I have a Jango account, pay for plays on Jango Internet radio, and people have the option to share their email address with me. I have email address's, but how should I go about adding these people to my aweber prospect list?
