John,
We have a big problem! All of the Aweber sign-up forms have disappeared from our websites. At first I thought something was wrong with my page, but then I checked and all of the sign-up forms are gone from every single page. Then I thought I hadn't paid my bills or something, but I checked your pages and they're gone from yours as well. I've checked on multiple browsers, computers and operating systems. All the same. There's just a big blank where they're supposed to be. Below are the sites I checked.

I had a sign-up from yesterday, so I know it worked then. I'm really hoping this is a temporary problem.

John,
More bad news. Looks like it was taken down by hackers. Aweber is aware of the problem and is trying to get it fixed. They stated on their Twitter account "We experienced a DDoS attack yesterday afternoon. All accounts are starting to come back up".

Hey Doug, yeah, I've been monitoring it closely and posting on Twitter a bit about it. They have a pretty detailed status chain here: https://aweber.statuspage.io/
Looks like things are finally restored.

Hello All:
Just curious...how often has this happened with Aweber? I know this was a DDOS attack (where it just overloads their system and it shuts down), but I've seen previously (a few years ago) that Aweber had another compromise where email addresses were stolen and spammed. I know this periodically happens with online businesses, but I wondered how much of a problem this has been for anyone who has used Aweber for any significant length of time...Also what was involved in setting up your opt-in forms (again) after their service was restored? Did they magically re-appear or did you have to re-install?
Ok thanks for any info here...

I'm glad it's finally back up! A few days before it went down I was getting more sign-ups than I have had in a long time. I'm not sure how often this happens. I've been with Aweber for about 3 years now and this has been the only time that I know of that they've been down. I didn't have to re-install anything they just magically reappeared once it was restored.

Hey guys, I've been with them since 2007 or so and have never experienced a loss of service. If there was one it was so minor I didn't even realize it. This was a malicious attack and not indicative of Aweber not doing their job. Whoever was doing this also attacked GetResponse (their main competitor), so it wasn't just an Aweber issue. I'd love to know the story behind the story.
Once forms went back up they were live again. Nothing needed to be done. It's unfortunate that this happened but I would liken it to a power outage, as apposed to any negligence on Aweber's part. I think they handled it well. The responded to thousands of tweets in real time, provided an off site status update page with email alerts, and were pretty communicative with their customers throughout. Here's hoping that it's over.
