Hello All,

I've looked all over the Internet and Aweber forums and I can't find an answer to this question. I'm hoping somebody here might know the answer. When I send out a broadcast message on Aweber I don't want to send it to people who have recently signed-up. Meaning I want them to receive all of their follow-up messages first before they start getting broadcast messages. Does Aweber do this automatically or is there some sort of segmented list that I have to exclude when I send out broadcast messages? Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Hey Doug,

It's good that you're thinking about this. It's an important thing to do. Unfortunately Aweber doesn't have an automatic feature that allows you to do that, which they should... However, what I do is just create a list segment and only send my broadcast to the people on the segment.

So in other words, I go into subscribers and search for everyone who has entered before whatever date allows for the follow up series to complete. Then I name and save he segmented list. Then when sending the broadcast I only send it to the segment. The only drag is that because it;s date specific you have to set it up every time. But it only takes a minute.

As I think about it, you might be able to use a suppression list to set a rule that excludes anyone that subscribed "lesson than X days ago" and then just copy the old broadcast each time to carry over the settings. But you might want to verify that that would work with Aweber. I know the segmentation option works fine. It's just a bit of a pain.

John,

I thought I might have to create a segment list. I wish there was an easier feature to allow us to do that. To me it makes sense not to allow a broadcast message until they've received all follow-ups. I guess we'll just have to contact Aweber and suggest they add that feature. I'll let you know if I have any more trouble. Thanks!

Hi Doug,

I spoke with Aweber and there is one easier way of doing this. You still need to create a segment but you can do it using the rule, "the last message received was #X" That way you will automatically create a segment of everyone who has completed your email series. And segments are rolling, meaning it will continue to update so you can use the segment over and over again and it will always be adding the people who have completed since the last email. BUT, if you add on other lists, the rule will also carry over (from what they tell me) and so if your customer list has less follow ups (which it likely will) those customers won't get the email because no one will have completed the 8th email (or whatever) because there won't be an 8th email in the customer list. Make sense?

So you would have to send out two blasts. One to your main list and one to all the others.

Hope that helps.

John,

That makes sense. Sounds like this should work just fine. I'll have to try it out on my next broadcast message. Thanks a bunch!
