Thanks John for the lesson!

I finally got a chance to watch it. There's been lots of opportunities to help popular local artists with their music videos lately, but I'm back now.

I don't have a smart phone, so I don't have a way to do this or test it. Unless someone knows a way to do it without a smart phone. An emulator perhaps? It sounds like it'll work great, so I'll keep the option open for when I'm capable of doing it. Thanks again!

Hey Doug,

Glad to see you back in the forum. Unfortunately I think the only way to really test it would be with a smart phone. But I'm sure you could get a friend, or even someone here in the forum, to test it for you if needed. You shouldn't have any problems, so long as it's all set up right.

This is pretty damn cool!

The only issue I'm having is when I view the podcast in iTunes on a desktop, the description field has some code for a feed burner tracking image that doesn't show up.

I found somewhere online that said you need to fill out the iTunes:subtitle tag, but I don't know where that is located. (blogspot.com or feed burner?)

Hey Tony,

I personally run my podcasts using a podcast plugin and you editor that in the plugin description. But that may be a little different than the setup shown here. You may want to ask @improv (Will Taylor) about how he recommends getting around it. You can just shoot him a PM here in the forum.

S.O.S.

I wonder if anyone else is having this problem(?):

I've got everything working, except that the prefix for my podcast address is different than Will's, and it will only work if it is cut and pasted into a browser on an iphone, it doesn't work when the same address is set up as a link within my response email.

To elaborate:

when I get to the step in Feedburner where I right-click on the subscribe-to-itunes and copy the URL for the feed, I'm getting a different prefix on my URL than Will is.  It's ' pcast '   instead of ' itpc  '.  I wrote Will an email and he responded by saying go ahead and use the 'pcast' prefix, it works the same. And it does, if the URL is cut and pasted.

However, when I try to add the 'pcast' URL as a link (in my response email in Aweber),  Aweber doesn't allow me to make a link of it because it doesn't begin with the prefix http:// or ftp

If I trick Aweber into making it a link  (going straight into html editing), I can create what appears to be a link but it doesn't do anything when clicked on in a phone.  Again, it can only be cut-and-pasted into a browser, in which case it then works and downloads the podcast.  Sure would be nice if it worked as a direct link though as it does in the video.

If anyone has the same problem or, especially, a solution please let me know, thanks!

Here is the code I used for the aweber email.

It worked for me, not sure if it works for everyone.

<p>If you are on a ***Smart Phone or Tablet...<br />
You can get the music anytime you want via Podcast.<br />
You may need to download a free Podcast App from App Store on iPhone, or Play Store on Android.<br />
Then click here:<a href="pcast://feeds.feedburner.com/ScaryCherryFreeSongPodcast">pcast://feeds.feedburner.com/ScaryCherryFreeSongPodcast</a></p>

Thanks Tony!   I've just discovered that my pcast link actually worked on an iPad using 'mail' app, though it doesn't work if clicked

within hotmail on an iPhone (also finding Hotmail automatically putting Aweber mails in Spam folder to most new users,

but that's another story). It's wise to point out that you may need to download the Podcast App within the email.

This whole thing is brilliant when and if it works, apparently 60 percent of people responding to my facebook ads are on phones.

Hey Thomas,

I've not run into these issues personally but I've asked Will to chime in as he has more experience with this one.

Cheers.

Make your link like this:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/Sc.....ongPodcast

You'll see if you follow this link it gives you many different options including the iTunes podcast.

And yes you have to have the podcast app if you wanted to open in that format on a smartphone

Just a heads up, the forum truncates links. So here is the whole link Will posted minus http

Thanks Will, and thanks John!  This one seems to be doing the trick better than the others. (It even opens access and allows me to play the songs on my old iPhone 3 that doesn't have the Podcast App installed). Sending some more test emails around to friends, will let you know if any more snags rear their ugly heads.

Wonderful stuff,

Thomas

Awesome, Ill switch to that as well.

It seems some people have no clue wtf a pod cast even is.

I'm going to be making a video on the thank you redirect page to explain and hold hands through the process.

Hello friends!  I've tried to get this all to work, a couple times now, and I consider myself pretty tech savvy but I must be missing something along the way so if anybody has any light to shed on this for me... cool!

Basically, I get to the point where I'm testing the link on my iphone and I keep getting the generic feedburner page that shows the tracks in the podcast.

I've tested using the link in a browser as well and it's the same thing... same page it goes to.

I've tried using the itpc:// version... the http:// version to no avail.  When I click on the link in my iphone it goes to the page I'll show you in the attachment below.

Any help is much appreciated!  I'll send Will a PM as well but figured I'd put it in the forum here to see if anybody else had the same issue and can shed light on it.

Oh, and yes, I have the podcast app on my phone as well as having it even launched as I'm trying to use the link I emailed to myself.

Thanks!  Jason

Hey Jason,

Did you hear anything back from Will on this yet?

I have noticed that almost every device and friend I've tested this through gives me a different result,

using the http link, BUT even when it takes you to the generic feedburner page at least you can play the

tracks through a phone, right? As opposed to when it just gives an error or download failed message when someone signs up for your list and only gets the zip option.  Obviously not a watertight solution but as Will pointed out to me he always uses it as just one of several options to access the tracks, in case this one doesn't work.

sorry I'm not more help, let me know if you hear something new from Will

thanks,

Thomas

You see the link that says "subscribe with itunes" on that feedburner page?

Hopefully most people would see that and click there and then it should open the podcast in the podcast app.

Did you try that?

I'm retesting to see if for some reason something has changed to cause this.

Ok, I just retested this, and it works fine with  my iphone 5 with the podcast app installed. Tell your fans they need to have that installed for it to work....

Hopefully out of 3 options, 1 will work.  I still have people asking me all the time how to add them to an ipod. (here's how you do that feature=youtu.be)

Here's what I say / checkout the link I'm using below.  This worked for me as of this post.

You can download one at a time, add to your device as an iTunes podcast, make sure you have the podcast app installed first or scroll to the bottom for a zip file.

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if by any chance anyone knows if this stopped working with itunes now that they've launched 'music'?

I just tried the link in my regular autoresponder on an iPad updated to iOS 8.4 and when I'm taken the the feedburner page, then click on the link that says: 'Add to iTunes'   I get this message:

'Safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid'

This is the same set up that I finally managed to set up so that it was working before, I've changed nothing. Only other possibility I can think of is I did a clean install of the new iOS on this iPad. (The podcast app is now included in iOS, which is good news, I think, if this still works). When I open the podcast app, it opens to a screen that reads:

You have no podcasts. Subscribe to a podcast or download episode to add them to My Podcasts. Show Featured Podcasts.

Could it be that there has to be podcasts subscribed to already for this to work?

Anyway thought I'd dive into the community here before I dive into troubleshooting, just in case anyone else knows or has an idea what may be happening, or has had a similar problem?

Much thanks,

Thomas

LATER UPDATE: Okay, have done some troubleshooting, for what it's worth to anyone else: so far found that a link with the prefix pcast still works on the new iOS.

However, my original funnel email with the 3-song link in which I decided to link in the email to the http feedburner address (as in http://feeds.feedburner.com/freesongs...etc) which takes you to the general feedburner page with multiple options - this seemed the more fail-safe option for older or non-apple items - but this one doesn't work on the iPad. When I click on the 'add to itunes' link after following the feedburner link, it says "Safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid"

In searching for solutions, I came across this 'Podlove' Wordpress podcast-subscription button. Does anyone have any experience with those?  I had a brainstorm that maybe an option, instead of a direct link, would be to have a link in the email for phone/pad users to a page back on our websites with a dedicated page that had one of these buttons, which may have the ability to detect what kind of device the user is on, and then they choose what application they want to subscribe via the button interface. Another step for the subscriber but maybe it'd be less hit-or-miss?  Thoughts?

Hi Thomas,

Steve here.

You may be right with your train of thought, but I really don't know to be honest, without testing it for myself.

Another option you have would be to send Will Taylor a private message and just kind of get some insight from him, as I'm sure he's been keeping himself up to date on this particular method.

Let us know how you make out, or if you get some clarity on this one at all.
