Congrats! You’re On The Inside.

Welcome to the Music Marketing Insider Circle! Please watch the introductory video below to get up to speed.

In short, the Insider Circle was created to kick things up a notch and take Music Marketing Manifesto to the next level.

While Music Marketing Manifesto teaches you the fundamentals of marketing, driving traffic, and creating a sales funnel, the Insider Circle will be teach you additional ADVANCED strategies, and keep you on the cutting edge of this rapidly changing industry.

I hope to make this your one-stop-shop for music marketing intelligence, training, and networking.

But always remember, there are no magic bullets out there people. Every artist is different and results will vary significantly. By following the strategies discussed in the Insider Circle you are not guaranteed any specific income or results.

That being said, everything discussed here is the REAL DEAL, and this stuff really does work. So get to it!

I’ll see you in the forum!

    Hi John and Insiders-
I have a new album coming out this spring and decided to re-boost the promo inspiration fuel by joining the circle. My first thing on my action list is to navigate through the 2.0 members (again!) and hopefully get some support in completing the lessons. There is a learning curve with the graphic design and all of the websites involved, but I am a smart and tenacious one when I put my mind to it. Looking forward to making some sweet connections! Peace and Blessings, Shawn

    • Hi Shawn,

Great to have you as a member. Yes, the graphic design stuff can be a challenge, but that’s exactly why John has provided you with the Squeeze page template in Module 2 of the MMM 2.0 members area.

That way you can simply edit in your own image(s) in place of the one(s) that comes with it. You can also get support for each lesson, right there in the members area, but we are also available by email at any time.

      Just drop a line to:

    Hey All,

Just signed up to this and the Music Marketing Manifesto 2.0 and excited to fuel my music career further! Great price John – I have only read about 5% of the stuff on here, and already have my money’s worth!

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Ace,

That’s great to hear! Glad your decision to join us seems to be worthwhile. There’s a lot here so try not to get overwhelmed.

Happy to have you here. Let me know if I can ever help with anything.

      • Ace Connell says:

        Hey John,

I started by fleeting between MMM2.0 and here, listening to an interview here, doing a module there, and it did seem a little overwhelming, and honestly, I was getting lost. I’ve found the best way for me (and probably others) is that I’m working through MMM2.0 in it’s entirety (notepad/pen in hand, of course haha), doing all of the tasks in that, then starting with month 1 of Insider Circle and working through.

It may not be the most beneficial/logical route, but it seems to be working for me so far ๐Ÿ™‚

Keep up the great work John, you being a name/face and interacting with us really gives it a personal touch.

        Take care,
        Ace

        • Hi Ace,

Steve here from support. Actually that is the recommended way to go about it because everything in the Insider Circle is used in addition to the core strategy from MMM.

So you definitely want to go through MMM and get your funnel set up, so that you can come back to the Insider circle for additional traffic strategies.

You don’t need to load up your autoresponder with messasges, just make sure the free track delivery is working just fine and then come to IC for insight on writing good follow-up.

Let us know if we can ever help with anything else.

  • Bonjour,
I am a French singer songwriter. I grew up all my life in Paris, France. In 2006, I met and followed a girl to Portland, Oregon. The other side of the world for me. Now a few years later, working hard on my dream, here I am still based on the West Coast, touring nationally in the US and Canada, one French song at a time… Love and music makes you do strange things sometimes! My dream is still alive…

I’m looking forward to learning a lot of great and helpful things with you guys and meeting new people and fellow musicians through this website.

G’day John and everybody in the “insiders circle”.
I hope I’m ready to use this great product you have created. I am starting from the beginning: 1st I need to create an incentive page and my own website and I thought I will go to Scott-“web sites for rock stars” for that; unless you recommend otherwise.
I write story based songs from the Bible(recently born again) as well as songs about love and normal life. My recent EP was released(to friends and family) just back in December 2012. I have 4 other CDs prior to this.
I’m 42 years old, happily married, 7 kids.
I’ve put my life into songwriting and work part time as a “Songwriters Helper”-giving those last little tweaks ready for radio & live. Also I run my own lawn and garden care business.
Music business is not my forte and computers almost dislike me it seems. I hope I can catch on to these techniques and concepts, so as I can be of benefit to my family, my self, you in the insider circle and others.
    Big thanks John, sincerely, Carl.

    • Hi Carl,

      Welcome to the Insider Circle!

It certainly sounds like you’re keeping busy. One of the reasons John set up the mastermind forum is so that folks with perhaps less experience with the tech side of this, can have an easier time catching up with the curve.

If you are trying to sort something out, the forum is usually the best place to go to see if someone else has successfully overcome the same issue.

Thanks for joining us and we will see you in the forums.

Let us know if we can ever help with anything.

Just got in the insiders circle, this is gonna be my first month, Iยดm a few weeks shy of releasing my EP, so Iยดm really exited about what Iยดm going to learn here. Thanks for this wonderful fountain of knowledge.

    • Hi Manuel,

Great! Welcome to the Insider Circle. It sounds like you might have joined us at precisely the right time. This way you can set up your sales funnel and take advantage of what you learn here BEFORE you release the EP.

If you steadily build your list over the next few weeks, you should be able to build some desire with folks to buy the EP when it’s done. That doesn’t even include your existing fans!

Good luck and let us know if we can ever help with anything.

Looking forward to getting well into it.

    Thanks.

    • Hi Matthew,

Steve here from support. Welcome to Insider Circle!

Totally know what you mean about overload when diving into to some of the online marketing info.

One thing that should help keep you on point is that MMM 2.0 is the core strategy you want to follow and Insider Circle are advancements in your efforts, once that core strategy is locked into place.

So you definitely want to make sure you get a squeeze page up, so you can drive traffic and start building that list.

Once that’s in place, everything here in the Insider Circle is enhancement to grow the list bigger and increase results.

Let us know if we can ever help with anything and be sure to utilize the forum from time to time.

  • Deborah Ramos says:

HI, John! You cannot IMAGINE how flabbergasted and excited I am to have found out about the Insider’s Circle and to have joined it! I am working as a personal assistant for my oldest friend that I have known since Kindergarten who is a poet/singer/songwriter/actress/activist allaround awesome woman named La Bruja (Caridad De La Luz) who has opened up a world for me and I have been telling her about the music manifesto and had just emailed her again about it before I came across the Insider’s Circle. I am on a limited income right now and to know that I can not only work on her music but my own and also when the time comes help manage others and promote them…and LEARN? There are no words…Thank you so SO very much for what I believe is a great service. Question: I want to still purchase the Manifesto. Is it still needed? I would think so but again, I’m on a really tight monthly budget and the one with the merchandise and fan base is La Bruja. It’s just me and my voice and the computer but I’m looking to change that. Again, much thanks, John!

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Deborah,

Thank you so much for the kind words about what I’m doing here with Insider Circle. I’m glad you found it too.

Generally it is recommended (but not entirely necessary) for people to go through MMM2.0 before moving forward with Insider circle. the reason being that MMM2.0 teaches the core strategy that I use in great detail. Once you have that foundation under you, then Insider Circle builds off that core strategy and into more advanced strategies for marketing your music.

Plus the Insider Circle is constantly updated and kept current with changes in the online marketing landscape. The nice thing though is that the core strategy in MMM has been fairly consistent for the last 100 years or so, with the exception being that it has been adapted for online use.

Thanks again and let me know if I can ever help with anything.

  • Carlton Walker says:

    Hey John,

If you get a chance, could you please take a look at my squeeze page and my LTO?

    Hereโ€™s the squeeze page:

    http://www.carltonwalker.net/

And hereโ€™s the LTO with Page Expiration Robot:

    http://www.carltonwalker.net/wordpress/?page_id=35

Iโ€™ve been using Twitter for traffic. Iโ€™m using the strategy you described โ€“ following people and then a certain percentage of them follow you back. Iโ€™m using SocialOomph for the DM and offering a free download with the link to my squeeze page. Iโ€™ve gotten about 1500 followers that way, but Iโ€™m only getting about 5% of them to subscribe. Iโ€™ve had a few sales, but none of them have been from the LTO. Most of them are occurring right after my blog of a lifetime in the auto-responder series. But the sales have all been either on Bandcamp (I can tell by their email addresses) or theyโ€™ve emailed me and told me they ordered the CD from Amazon.com or downloaded on iTunes. Itโ€™s a very small sample, but itโ€™s about an 8.5% conversion, so I guess thatโ€™s encouraging in a way. But still no takers on the LTO.

I want to do some banner advertising, but I want to make any necessary improvements before I start that. What do you see on the squeeze page or the LTO that I should be doing differently? Please let me know. Thanks for your help.

    Carlton Walker

    • Hi Carlton,

Steve here from support. John asked me to get to your comment, but I’ll have him weigh in on it for you as well, when he has a chance.

The one thing about your squeeze page that jumps out as possibly hurting your conversions is the Viral Music Player on the page. Essentially, you are giving people the option of hearing the song without signing up and that actually works against the concept of a squeeze page.

On a side note, the Viral Music Toolkit is great for directing people to your squeeze page, as people share via social sites, but it may be hurting your conversions on the page.

As far as the LTO… It’s short and sweet and seems to be a good offer. 2 for $20 is a good deal. Perhaps if you included some reviews, you might see people opting to take the offer.

Also, if you offer singles from each album on your squeeze page, you might see the LTO convert better as well, once it’s offered because people will have heard tracks from both already.

Get in touch if we can ever help with anything else.

      • John Oszajca says:

        Hey Carlton,

Steve is covering the fort for me while I’m traveling but he asked me to weigh in. I agree with Steve about the player. VMP is an awesome tool. But I wouldn’t usually offer a sample of a track on a squeeze page. Typically it kills curiosity and lowers conversions. But you would need to test that. It’s not always the case.

I think you could work on the headline a bit as well. You might also customize the opt in form and eventually even play with editing the template itself to match whatever branding you’re going for. As it is I don’t get an immediately strong feel for what kind of artist you are. But again, only testing will tell you what is the right way to go there.

But tread slowly and track everything because your conversion rate on sales is fantastic. Well done.

        As for the LTO…

I think the offer is good but the presentation could be improved. The copy doesn’t pull me in at all and everything is a bit pedestrian on the page. My guess is that you really opened up in the blog post and so that is why you are seeing the sales. I think you could add some more of yourself to the copy on the LTO page and really let people in on the “why” of the whole thing.

With that said, I’m still surprised you haven’t had any takers. It’s usually the LTO that gets the majority of the sales. Ironically it may be that your super strong conversion rate earlier in the funnel is cutting into your conversion rate on the LTO. But you certainly can’t argue with that.

I’d play with a few things, track, and see where you end up.

        Hope that helps.

        • Carlton Walker says:

Thanks John. I agree that the order page for the LTO is a bit lame. Since I have trouble getting things to look the way I want with WordPress, I think I’m going to get the version of Page Expiration Robot that works on html pages. There’s software available that doesn’t require html knowledge that I should be able to use to design something with a more enticing appearance. I’ll keep plugging away at it. Thanks for your help guys.

      • Carlton Walker says:

Thanks Steve. Actually I do offer two tracks from the squeeze page — one from each album. I’ll take the VMP off the squeeze page and try some of the things John has suggested below. Thanks for your help.

Hey guys – I manage a Rock and Roll Band out of Houston called The 71’s.
I’m killing myself trying to get exposure for them and trying to find effective
non-expensive ways to raise exposure for their new album release on 8/18.
Looking at marketing to fans and capturing new ones without being a pest .
Can anyone relate? I welcome suggestions and things to avoid.

    • Hi Lee,

Steve here from MMM Support. John asked me to give a speedy reply over the weekend here. I hope you don’t mind.

      Welcome to the Insider Circle!

I can totally relate to your situation. One of my biggest complaints about bands over the years is that they do tend to be a pest with social media sites and such, although their intentions are good. The problem is not really knowing what works and what doesn’t.

I noticed that you are not a member to MMM2.0 so there may be a piece of the puzzle that you are missing, which I think will help you tremendously in understanding a few things that definitely work to accomplish what you’ve described above.

I strongly suggest you pop into the library section of the Insider Circle and watch the very first video that John created for Insider Circle members who are not MMM2.0 members. It will definitely clarify a bunch of things for you.

Again welcome and get in touch if we can ever help with anything else.

    • Marion Lougheed says:

      Hi Lee (and everyone),
I’m also working as a “manager” and it’s tough going. However, if you keep working at it, I think you can make progress. Getting sales is the hardest thing, as well as getting people out to shows (another form of sales, really), so hopefully this site will teach us both some useful things!

      Cheers,
      Marion

  • Rand Newiger says:

Hello John, I purchased the MMM a few weeks ago. I have a start-up indie label and several bands of which I am involved, have a couple of websites that aren’t developed yet. I wanted to study the MMM before I go in head first with these projects. My question is will this great information be relevant when I am ready to move forward. Thanks, Rand Solardrive Music and Media

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Rand,

Yes absolutely. The content in the course and on this site will be totally relevant for the bands on your label. It’s possible a few of the traffic strategies will change in subtle ways, but the core principles should be the same for years to come. And if a traffic strategy changes considerably, I will change the course or let you know what you should be aware of. The only trick will be getting them to do any of this stuff for themselves. As the label, you can do some of this on their behalf to an extent, but really at some point they are going to want to be engaged with it.

A lot of the process comes down to relationship building with your subscriber list and I’m not really sure the label can necessarily do that for the band.

Thanks for picking up MMM and get in touch if I can ever help with anything.

      • John Oszajca says:

Hey Rand, sorry, when I responded I was doing some from my admin panel and thought this was left inside of Music Marketing Manifesto.

Actually, it is possible some things could change. The Insider Circle is made up of much newer and more cutting edge strategies. So it’s possible things could become more or less effective over time. I try to post updates in the comments and the forum though. And if it’s been a while then you could just ask in the forum and I’ll let you know the latest. But everything here is still effective and current to the best of my knowledge/experience.

        • Rand Newiger says:

Thanks for the response, I am actually very involved with all the bands(lot more work) and am looking forward to implementing these strategies with success! Thanks again, Rand

      Hey Wynce,

  • Chris Syler says:

Hey John, awesome to be part of the Insider Circle.

My name is Chris Syler, I’m a latin artist and also full time songwriter living in Miami. I was born in Texas, grew up in Bolivia. I moved to Miami to start a career in songwriting, I have a publishing deal with Sony/ATV Latin. My career as a songwriter just picked up last year, I had a top 10 in Billboard Latin 200 for a song I wrote for another artist.

I’ve always wanted big success as an artist myself, I’ve been in many countries touring for a long time, building strong fan base especially in Mexico. I was looking for answers on how to succeed independently in Music, also always dreamed of having a successful record label. I couldn’t live with the fact of going over 100.000 fans on Facebook and looking at an average 60 $ – 80 $ total sales per month on iTunes (That’s what you get per day at a 9 to 5 job here in Miami) and I had over 100.000 potential customers !

It was pretty lame to pack a show of 400 people in a city, and have only have the value of 3 tickets as for sales of my music monthly.

I came across your amazing project, you really changed the whole path in my career as an artist, I admire you so much !!! So many people can have better careers and BETTER LIVES because of you. Awesome work man.

    Cheers !

    Chris

    • Hi Rosalee, Eve, Chris, Ricco and Midiane!

John asked me to wish you guys a warm welcome to the Insider Circle, due to the volume of email today.

Enjoy the trainings and definitely do not hesitate to hit up the forums if there are any questions or ideas you want to run by the other members.

      Enjoy!

Looks like Iยดll have to resize my photo before I can post it on gravatar. Anyway, Iยดm a filmmaker and also have produced one (and will soon produce a second) CD. My interests are world music and dance (Iยดm a former musician and current dancer), culture, the arts, and communicating across boundaries (racial, ethnic, etc.). Iยดm MUCH better at creating (film) and organizing-producing than I am at selling. In fact, I kind of suck at selling.

  • Danelle says:

Hello John et al, my name is Danelle. Firstly, John, I’m loving your valuable insights and lessons. I am a singer, songwriter and composer from London UK. I make a lot of music as a professional for various projects and genres, as an artist as well as a running my own record label/publishing company. My most recent successes are an ongoing number of placements of my music in TV, Ads and Film worldwide. I am just getting myself re-established again, this is a new beginning for me. I used to be a signed recording artist; back then I always relished my independence and still do so now. I like to take a tasteful & savvy guerrilla marketing approach to promotions. I am excited to be checking out The Insider Circle and learning more and more. I am like a sponge… As they say knowledge is power, fellow artists… Let’s network!

    Enjoy your week all
    Danelle

Hi – I’m Jim Purtell and I’m a songwriter and not a performer. I’m looking for ideas to drive traffic to our website and I’m also interested in SEC strategies and developing new relationships. I have a new rather unique CD that I will be releasing in about a month and I want to maximize its potential.

  • Barbara J Hunt says:

    Hi John

I wanted to ask a question about how I best market to the “middle-aged”/”new-age”/spiritually interested type folks? Do different strategies apply here? I don’t know if the whole “fan” thing is the same when you’re older.

This is the kind of thing I do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Rt5H60nEw

    Love your advice,

    Many thanks

    Barbara

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Barbara,

Yes, the strategies still apply. The trick here is to target the people who are likely to buy your music by targeting keywords that they would use to find your type of music, things related to the lifestyle, etc.

I actually think you will do better with an older audience because older people tend to have more money to spend. You also have a nice, specific niche which will be easy to target.

Let me know if I can ever help with anything else

  • Ali Handal says:

Hello, Insiders! I’m Ali Handal — I play lead guitar, sing & write, and am looking to expand my fan base so I can tour all over the world and actually have an audience at my shows! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I primarily tour solo acoustically at the moment, but one of my favorite things to do in life is to rock out with my band. (My cat is not so much a fan of the loud rock music, though.)

I’m looking forward to getting to know lots of you on the forums and hope to meet many of you in person.

    Take care,
    Ali

  • Hi everyone! My name is Michele Thomas. I’m a jazz/soul singer out of Chicago and I’m trying out the Insider’s Circle for the first time. I found out about John through CDBaby and I’ve been enthused about the information I’m getting from the Music Marketing Manifesto. I’m hoping to get even deeper into this in the Insider’s Circle. Thanks!

    • John Oszajca says:

      Hi Michele,

Welcome! It’s great to have you here. Make sure you make your way into the forum at some point if you ever need some additional insight about a training or anything else in general.

      Have fun!
