Congrats! You’re On The Inside.
Welcome to the Music Marketing Insider Circle! Please watch the introductory video below to get up to speed.
In short, the Insider Circle was created to kick things up a notch and take Music Marketing Manifesto to the next level.
While Music Marketing Manifesto teaches you the fundamentals of marketing, driving traffic, and creating a sales funnel, the Insider Circle will be teach you additional ADVANCED strategies, and keep you on the cutting edge of this rapidly changing industry.
I hope to make this your one-stop-shop for music marketing intelligence, training, and networking.
But always remember, there are no magic bullets out there people. Every artist is different and results will vary significantly. By following the strategies discussed in the Insider Circle you are not guaranteed any specific income or results.
That being said, everything discussed here is the REAL DEAL, and this stuff really does work. So get to it!
I’ll see you in the forum!
– John
Hi everyone.
I’m a singer/songwriter/saxophonist and I’m also an author. I’ll be launching a multimedia spiritual book/ebook that includes 10 rock songs and 11 mp3 meditations. I’m setting up my marketing plan in both the music and publishing arenas. I look forward to playing with you all.
Hey Dan,
Welcome to MMIC. Thanks for joining and I look forward to seeing you in the Mastermind forum.
Hello, John and Everyone-
My name is Todd Donnelly, and I have been a career musician for over 30 years now. I run the band Mr. Myers out of the Chicago area. ( http://www.mrmyers.com ) I play steel drums, percussion, and do lead vocals with the band as well as play solo. I am looking for a more agressive marketing approach to my online and offline presence, and this program seems to be just what I’m looking for! I look forward to meeting and working with everyone- glad to be here!
Hey Todd. Thanks and welcome. If you’re just getting started here be sure to check out the “sales funnel” video I just added to the library. It’s a great place to start.

Hey Katy,

The album I’m working on right now is Bluegrass as well. With an alternative edge. But I think you might be the only other Bluegrass musician here so far. Good stuff 🙂

RAINTOWN
Hey John,
I didn’t read everyone’s intro, but is there another Christian songwiter musician in the group? I was just wondering…
G
Hey Gerard,
It’s hard to keep everyone straight in my head, but yes, I believe there are several other Christian artists in the members area. You might try reaching out in the forum. Really great to have you here and thanks for joining the MMIC.
Thanks John…. MMM has been awesome and is working for the rest of you i’m Garland aka Spyder G a hip hop/Rap artist and producer from Saskatchewan Canada. Really looking forward to networking with all of you!
SG
Hey Garland, thanks for the kind words about MMM.
All the best,
John
I’ve got big plans, so I need a big Mastermind Group to help me pull this off! Thanks John!
G
Sounds good Greg. You’re in the right place 🙂
Thanks for joining the MMIC.
Hey All,
I highly recommend you first get your hands on John’s ‘Music Marketing Manifesto 2.0’, as I did recently, the ‘Insider Circle’ course will make even more sense when you do, in my opinion.
I’ve been going through the Training videos here, which again, have thrown more light on the whole subject of edging our way out of relative darkness. I also HIGHLY recommend, after listening to it, John’s audio interview “Getting Signed – Getting signed in the New Music Business.” which is clickable from the LIBRARY section on this page. It’s the best, frank discussion on the topic I have heard, minus any double talk or gimmicks. I jumped on it straight away & I know you’ll enjoy the hell out of it!
My personal background is connected with my association, as synthist, with Australian band Real Life, you may know our biggest international hit record, Send Me An Angel, from the 80s. Today, I continue as a singer, producer, under the name Alien Skin, have released two indie albums, and I’m looking forward to further improve my standing with regards to public awareness & sales, with the lessons John is providing.
Good luck to each and everyone of You, too!
Cheers,
George
Hey George, how cool. I do remember that song. Very nice. Now it’s stuck in my head 🙂
Glad you liked the interview on getting signed. That was fun for me to do. I hope others dig it as well.
Thanks for the props as well. I really appreciate it.
Hey John,
My name is Gerard, friends call me G. I am a Christian songwriter musician (percussionist) I write and play Island Style Christian music… Not Reggae… My first CD did ok the first time out… still have 2000 copies in the garage! exposure is my problem… Anyway I signed up yesterday… So this will be my baseline for starting over! Fresh, using this system… I am looking forward to learning and reproducing your effords, as I learn a thing a two, a three, a four…lol
Sounds good Gerard. Really happy to have you. When I originally created MMIC I did so as an adjunct to MMM 2.0. It seems there are a decent amount of people here who don’t have that course. So I’m going to put together a quick summary lesson of MMM so that you guys all have the fundamentals down of online marketing. It may take me a week or so, but I’ll get that up in the members area soon. Thanks again for signing up. I really appreciate it.
Hi, My Name is Lantz and I front an original Alt/Rock band called 27 Years. I also am a solo artist and producer. I feel like I have been running into brick walls with the music business lately…this program has given me inspiration to keep pushing. Thanks, and I look forward taking the leap.
Thanks Lantz. I really appreciate you signing up. I’ve got a bunch of new stuff to post in the members area soon. Let me know if you need anything along the way.
Hey John,
Just set up my Insider’s account with you. Looking forward to it. My main instrument is guitar and my main style is progressive hard rock. I write music everywhere from new age to speed metal. My 2nd CD is in the works currently. My last release “Total Effect” was released Jan 2009.
Just wanted to say hello to everyone and looking forward chatting with like minded musicians and learning this crazy new music business.
Ed.
Hey Ed,
Thanks for joining the MMIC. I really appreciate you deciding to take the leap. Let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Hello,
Glad to meet everyone.I play a Hammond organ and piano. My favorite format is jazz/fusion with rock influence and in the process of working on a CD .
Hey Christopher,
Welcome. Great to have you here. I know there are at least a couple of you Jazz guys here. Let me know if I can help with anything at all.
Great to be here John, loved your MMM course and I’ve very much looking forward to learning more in this cutting edge venue.
I’m basically a singer-songwriter that’s into spiritually based (though non religious) pop type tunes. Looking forward to getting to know other other musicians and sharing ideas on the forums.

Hello John, I just wanted to introduce myself to you. I am happy to be here and always willing to learn more and more about the music business as I am trying to get my solo career as well as my production company off the ground. I appreciate this opportunity. Take care and stay encouraged.
Thanks Darren and welcome. I look forward to chatting more in the forum.
Hi John.
Thanks for your services. Until now – looking from the outside it looks great! Looks like the real deal. Real stuff. Real matter. A real need for this! Im looking forward to dive into the pool of experience.
I bought MMM some month ago. And now I join the Inner cirkle. The timing is almost perfect and I had to jump on this train now! But Im at the final rush of finishing my debut album and I concentrate on music now! -until august. When the music is done -It says promotion promotion promotion in my mind, day out and day in for three month,- and with your help and probably others in here I hope to start a train of marketing, which I’ll be able to keep running also during the future periods of concentrated work in my homestudio.
Thanks!
My web site. If you’re curious 🙂 I’ll change name and layout completely very soon: http://www.franksspace.net/
Hey Frank,
Thanks for the support. I’ll check out your site next.
Thanks again and welcome to the MMIC.
Looking forward to getting started!
Dear John– (No, not yet-haha- I’m going to give you a serious try!)
I am a singer-songwriter-pianist. I play a bit of rhythm guitar as well. Been doing this for 40 years. I have 2 full length CDs and two 4 song samplers made professionally with guest artist, my friend pianist, George Winston appearing on all of them on a few songs. Only one member of my band remains as it took 4 years to complete the project. One has since passed away, another moved, and so on. And so,not really playing anywhere now, we have no marketing avenue. I was intrigued by your offer.
I learned so much when making the cds. It started when I wrote a song for my daughter who was in Iraq at the time repairing Chinook helicopters. I played it for my friend, George and he said I had to record it. And so…the project ballooned into so much original material I had two cds made and I have 2 more “in the can”. It took 5 studios- from Virginia to San Francisco- I wrote the material, did everything from jump to even painting the pictures for the covers. I am a professional artist, as well. But I am an internet hooplehead. I have tons of CDs and a website that I dont understand how to use. Hopefully you will be able to help me! (I cant even understand the gravatar thingy…)
My band is Blue Fried Soulsa -my stage name is Annie Moonbeams- now a duo in Virginia Beach,VA–looking for a bass player, at least.
website needing help–www.sendakinternational.com
you can find cds and sound clips at digstation.com under Annie Moonbeams Jazz and Blues categories.
there is a myspace under bluefriedsoulsa/myspace but it is wonky at times.
We are supposed to be on cdbaby but never really figured all that out.
I dont know how to make sound clips to put on my own website nor how to make it so people can buy my cds easily. HELP!!!
Thank you!!
Welcome Annette,
Thanks for giving the MMIC a try. You’ve got quite a story by the sound of it. head on over to the forum and get started. Post your questions there and we’ll all be here to help.
PS-I forgot to mention that people take free cds all day long even though a portion of our proceeds goes to military charities such as Wounded Warriors and Cell Phones for Soldiers. I hope you can give me suggestions as to how you make people come up off the cash?!
thanks, Annie Moonbeams
I’m not sure I’m clear… do you give them an option to have it for free or donate?
At the risk of stating the obvious, don’t give them the option to have it for free 🙂
Treat it like a sale, not a donation. Use the charity angle as a way to break the buying resistance.
Hope that helps a bit.
Hi, John
While the Mike Luno Band (www.mikelunoband.com) has gone through a few names and personnel changes over the last 15 years, we’ve always had the gut feeling that there’s a definite niche audience for our music – if we could just find it (or the niche could find us). Over the last year I’ve shifted my focus significantly from music writing/recording to music marketing, for better or worse. I’m rather desperate now to start doing the marketing more efficiently so that I can get back to writing a tune once in a while- and maybe even make a buck from it! I’m optimistic that the MMIC can help. Thanks for sharing!
Mike
Hey Mike,
Thanks and welcome. Let me know if there is anything you need along the way.
Hi, I’m Max (a girl) from Aussie rock/punk outfit The On Fires. We’ve been touring internationally for the last 4 years & it’s been aMAZing (Ukraine, Turkey, Poland, Nth America, Pacific Islands, China & more incredible parts of the world). But it’s not financially sustainable. Yet….
We’re taking the rest of this year off from touring to recover, re-focus, re-plan & get this business sustainable so we can keep sharing our show & music around the world.
– Max
Hey Max,
Welcome. Touring all over the world is awesome, but as you alluded to, it can be expensive. You might try picking a single, more economical route, and hitting it repetitively until you have a large following in those specific cities and can command the fees that you need to make it sustainable. Then expand to new territories. But we’ll discuss all this stuff in the forum.
Thanks for joining. Happy to have you here.
Hello, I’m a chillout ambient electronica producer under the name Jap Jap. Check out http://japjap.net for my music. I joined MMM 2.0 but I was really not able to spend time on all the great techniques… Now my 4th full length album is nearly finished and I get a 2nd chance. I’m ready to take on whatever is needed to get this release to the next level. I will start creating my splash-page real soon and hope to learn more here about getting my backcatalog noticed with publishers. Cheers John!
Hey Jasper,
Nice to se you over here in the MMIC. Thanks for signing up and be sure to let me know how I can help.
Wow…so cool to read all the different posts from so many artists here.
I did a version of John’s Music Marketing Manifesto about three years ago, have referred to it often since, and have moved myself forward using that material. It’s solid. I’ve worked in online marketing at both the entrepeneur level and as a VP for a multi-million dollar company back in the day, so I know his process can work for even the most (supposedly) ‘obscure’ genres of music.
I think of it like this: I write and record music that mostly has its roots in the big guitars and melodies of the 70s and 80s. Not exactly ‘cutting-edge’, but it’s mostly what comes out when I create. I figure with nearly 7 billion people on the planet, I *have* to have an audience out there (I already know I do, I do have some fans) and it’s just a matter of reaching a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the planet…reaching the right people.
Reaching the right people is what I would like to get out of the Inner Circle, personally. As much work as I’ve done with online marketing, I know full well that trying to coach yourself can sometimes be a bit difficult. So having this group of fellow artists on top of John’s stellar material should be cool.
Very cool to finally be doing the MMIC…

Hi
I’m Mike Fleurimond I am part of a group called Project1804, our style ranges from Hip-Hop, R&B, and Rock. We haven’t had much success in getting a big following. Still trying to get a steady fan base, we’ve tried everything and still trying. You can check us out at http://www.project1804.com go to the media page for music. Looking forward to getting in here and meeting everyone and hopefully getting our career on track.
Hey Mike, welcome.
Thanks for joining the MMIC. Let me know if there is ever anything I can help with.
What’s up Y’all? Scott James here from IndependentRockstar.com and WebsitesForRockstars.com.
John, this looks awesome! Everyone else, If you’re reading this then I’d say you’ve made a good decision that’s going to make a big difference for you. I’ll be here to participate in discussions, offer some tips on web design and marketing and to learn from all of you out there on the front lines. I’ll also be introducing some special offers on web design for insider members.
Thank you John, for having the vision to make this a reality and to everyone else for participating. By being here you’re on the cutting edge of the evolution of the independent artist. I’m not just blowing sunshine. We’re in the middle of an obviously turbulent time in the music business. New technology has given musicians more power than they know what to do with. This has lead to a lot of noise and not a lot of money or fulfillment. The only way out is for musicians to evolve. So you can tune out all of the uninspired talk about how the sky is falling and nobody is making any money and free music doesn’t work, etc. The successful internet marketers that have come before us have created the blueprint for success in the age of the internet. They know a lot that musicians don’t know…yet. The good news is that musicians will start to learn these things and will learn how to be far more successful than they are right now. By being here, you’re on that path.
Fortunately we have the opportunity to learn from someone with the rare distinction of being both a successful musician and a successful internet marketer. Trust me – you’re in the right place. Now let’s make the most of it!
Wow Scott, thanks so much. Totally touched.
For anyone reading this, Scott is a web designer who specializes in design fro musicians. You can check out his site at http://www.websitesforrockstars.com
He does great work.
Scott, there are a few folks who had questions in the forum about creating sites. I posted your link there but you might check those posts out as well. Thanks again man.

Hi John
I’m a Latin/World Jazz Vocalist who quit my day gig almost 5 years ago to try and make it in this crazy business. I’ve done “alright” but I know there is always more to do and I appreciate all the great things I’ve read and heard from you. So I’m here to give this a try and see if I can increase my fan base, sell more CDs, gets some more touring in the works–and stop losing money! 🙂 I really look forward to learning as much as I can here.

Hey Kat,
If you’ve quit your day job then you are way ahead of the pack. Congrats. Really happy to have you here. Let me know if there is ever anything you need.
Thanks again,

Hi John
Quick question? Is there a place to access the Music Marketing Manifesto? Or is that not a part of this package? It would be good to get an overview of all the things that you have been working on ie. joint ventures, touring, etc. Or do I just get all that info from the forums?
Thanks
Kat
Hey Kat,
Music Marketing Manifesto is a separate product. The Insider Circle was in part created to be the next step after MMM, but it’s also designed to work on it’s own. Sometime soon I plan to create a condensed training video which gives you an overview of the strategy and add it to the library, so that everyone here has the fundamentals down of the sales funnel model that I use. It will make this stuff all that much more powerful. Until then, I can answer/explain anything in the forum.
Thanks John
I’ve just been noticing a lot of things mentioned that I don’t really have a clue about, ie. “squeeze” page?, Joint ventures, etc. How much would it be to purchase the manifesto? And maybe that is what I should have done first instead of signing onto this?
Thanks for your ever quick responses!
Kat
Hi John,
I’m a signed artist through http://www.tatemusicgroup.com. This record label is located in Oklahoma. They are hopefully marketing our music as stated in contract. It’s hard to know what they are really doing. I do keep in contact with them and they are a great record label to work with. Yet I’m still not seeing much in the sales of my latest album. I do believe we have work to do at our end also. I hope your insite will help us in the selling of more albums. This is mostly what I’m in this business for.
Terri G
http://www.myspace.com/terrigsmusic
Hey Terri, welcome to the MMIC.
It’s great to have a label working for you but as I’ve mentioned, I’ve had 4 deals and I’m yet to see someone do what they’ve promised. In my experience labels tend to focus on branding and “exposure”. They don’t do much in the way of creating a “process” or “system” to convert all those people that are exposed to the music into buyers. When the branding strategy is done on a massive scale, like the majors are able to do, it can work. But when they do it on a small scale, or they simply fail to connect, it’s rare to see any kind of real results.
Just make sure you get a sales funnel in place (like discussed in MMM 2.0) and then you can actually capture leads as a result of all that “exposure” and turn some of those leads into buyers. That way, regardless of what the label does, you are still building an asset and expanding as an artist and ultimately as a business. Let me know if you have any questions or there is ever anything you need.
Hi all!
Really looking forward to kicking my career up a notch or 5!
Thanks for creating this John.
Here’s to our success!

Hey everyone,
My name is Tim Smisek, composer/singer/guitarist for my group Glass Petals who recently shifted base from Chicago to Paris, France. I’m very excited to learn and discuss music marketing strategies, and see how I can apply them to the European & International markets.
Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Best,

Welcome Tim, thanks for joining. Let me know if there is ever anything you need.
I’m an American residing in Tokyo Japan. I work with several area indie bands, and want to provide them the best marketing and development services when I promote them, their shows. A lot of bands here would like to know how to break in to markets outside of Asia, so your MM group will give me insight. I also hope to use the foundational ideas for “in Japan” marketing!
Hi insiders.
Thank you John for a great opportunity to master internet marketing.
Here is my story. I live in Ukraine all my life [ born in USSR 🙂 ]. Started playing piano in six years old. As I didn’t like to read notes from the score I started to create my own music: waltz and other classical stuff. I’ve been keeping that hobby of composing inside of me until I get the opportunity to write music at my daily job (a web developer). I was invited to a new department as a sound designer and soundtrack writer. That happened 2 years ago and I realized that I should develop my musical skills. Now I’m working on my first album and share my music at http://soundcloud.com/serge-seletskyy . I do know I’m not a perfect piano player, but it’s a question of time. After I’ve read the article “Here’s How to Fail as a Musician…” I just cannot sit and do nothing.
So let’s go kick ass 🙂
With respect
Super excited to be here!
John, thank you so much for the work you’ve put into this. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can learn and do.
Thanks Pamela. Really happy to have you here.

Hi John,
Alien Skin is here for the long haul!

Sounds good man. Thanks and welcome. Let me know if there is ever anything you need.
Cheers.
I guess I jumped the gun…I left a comment to John before I watched the video, and before I heard what he wanted us to do. So…..here’s my introduction
My name is Greg Parke, and I am a solo musician. I currently perform on MIDI acoustic and electric guitars, and my music leans towards modern alternative pop/folk. I have made a few CD’s, but only one CD that I have really done much with. (Sold around 4000 copies, mostly from performances) I have been self employed almost all my life, and music has always been my major focus. I gave my first “paid” performance when I was 9 years old, and I am now in my 50’s, and still performing, in clubs and bars, but the past several years I have also gotten into outdoor markets, festivals, cruise ship landings, wine tastings and performance centers, and am looking into the house concert scene. I have done other things……owned a custom cabinet shop, (where I built many guitars and countless speaker systems!) owned a small sound company that did sound for small fairs, concerts and clubs, etc, but I never really felt right unless I had a guitar around my neck and a microphone in my face. I now live on a small farm in SW Washington, with a rehearsal/recording studio in the barn, and I make a meager living as a musician. John has opened my eyes to some new methods that we can use to make a better living at what we do. I hope that by joining the MMIC, I can offer my years of experience in the music biz, and help all of you, as much as you can show me what you have, or are learning, and what you are doing in the new, evolving music field. My website is at http://www.gregparke.com I look forward to meeting all of you in the Insider Circle!
Man Greg, great story. You’re the real deal. Thanks for being a part of the MMIC.
Well! John, im back!!
I cant say enough good things about you and your programs.
I think its an addiction but it works because you have helped me tremendously.
Tahnk you again also for the referral to both aaron davison and Sarah Gavigan.
That was awesome
Chris Williams

Thanks Chris. It’s great to have you here. Really stoked to hear that you’re seeing some good results. Let me know if you ever need anything.
Hi John,
Timing for this is perfect! (I’m the guy who lost my almost finished CD the other day due to my mastering computer crashing.) Things are really looking up! About an hour ago, thanks to a great friend’s help, I got a new computer set up in the studio. I re-arranged things so I have the time to re-do what I lost, and now along comes the “Inner Circle”. I haven’t felt this pumped up in years! MMM really opened my eyes as to what I should be doing, and I have no doubt that joining the Inner Circle is going to be extremely beneficial as well. You rock John! Thanks so much for putting all of this together.
Thanks Greg, I really dig your enthusiasm. Losing those tracks is rough. It’s really great that you didn’t let it get you down. Thanks for joining.
As someone who is tech resistant and web challenged I’ve really appreciated your thorough and thoughtful approach and I’ve taken steps such as joint ventures which I would have had no context for implementing before joining MMM. I’m looking forward to finding more creative solutions in this musical think tank! Many thanks John!!
Hey Julianna, Great to see you here. Thanks for signing up and let me know if there is anything specific you would like me to focus on at any stage.
I have the core knowledge from MMM, and I can confirm that what I’ve implemented absolutely does work. I have a good estimate of what each list subscriber is worth to me. I’m looking forward to sharing what specific things are working, and what things aren’t. I’m also wanting to hear what is working for others.
I’m not bummed AT ALL by what is happening to the economy or the music industry. All that stuff is an opportunity for those of us willing to do things differently. 🙂
Hey Charlie,
Absolutely right on your last point. I’m really impressed by how well you’re taking to focusing on metrics. That’s something that most people skip, but it’s so often the key to success.
Thanks for joining MMIC. Happy to have you hear.
I’m Dave and I lead the conscious pop rock band LYRE (http://lyre.tv). It’s like U2, Lou Reed, and Coldplay formed a supergroup and cranked out songs of hope and encouragement and awakening to your true potential. I’m here to learn how to take LYRE forward to our true potential. See you around the circle.
Hey Dave. Welcome and thanks for joining.
It’s so refreshing to hear from a musician who ACTUALLY has an opinion on who they sound like? It’s like pulling teeth to get musicians to answer that question,
Well done 🙂
Thanks again.
While I just signed up for MMM 2.0, I’ve been experimenting with IM for a little over a year. I love how MMM 2.0 takes many of the IM core concepts and focuses them on music.
One of the things I’ve seen time and time again in my non-music IM self-education is that people who are having a lot of success almost invariably stress the benefit of getting involved with a mastermind group. So when I started getting the email about this, I thought ‘ok I gotta do this!’ Plus the timing is great as my band is putting finishing touches on our first 3 song EP (which we’re going to use as our offer) and are rehearsing material for our full length.
So… Cheers! Glad to be here!
